I want my wine, darnit.

Everything I know about alcohol consumption has to do with 1 year olds and younger. My DS is 17 months, but still nurses constantly. It seems whenever I drink a nice glass of red, he needs to nurse within the hour. I usually let him. After all, it's just one glass! And I am by no means drunk.

It is customary for our family though to have a glass every night with dinner. I really like my wine. I am in graduate school and I work from home, so my day is stressful. The wine is good for the soul. I get so tired of trying to plan to drink it right before he nurses, since this never works, as he is more comfort nursing than anything.

Am I being bad? If I can't always wait two hours before he nurses, is my glass a day consumption hurting him?

I don't want to be flamed. Just trying to see how extended nursing and being a wino works for others out there.

I don't really drink, and I don't think I ever drank while I was nursing, but I don't think it's a big deal unless you're drinking at alcoholic levels. Very, very little gets into your milk, no matter how close you drink to nursing.

It doesn't sound like you are getting intoxicated...so drink up. Have that glass of wine and nurse your child and don't feel a second of guilt. I never did.

I have a bottle of beer with dinner pretty much every night. And maybe one weekend day I have an afternoon beer.

And my DD is only 4.5 months. I feel totally comfortable with that.

And drink one for me! I'm fine with a drink while nursing, but I'm missing it while I'm pregnant, LOL!

No one says you can't have a glass of wine while breastfeeding, not even the AAP. You can have wine with a young baby. Women have always drank wine throughout history in many cultures.
