Is this enough sleep???

OK I don't want to get hung up on how my kid is "supposed to sleep" but my DS often sleeps only 9 - 9.5 hours at night. He is only 20 months. This seems like WAY to little. Of course, he does have a 2-3 hour nap, so I guess he usually gets 12 hours total.

His moods don't seem to correspond to how much sleep he has gotten. He can be totally cheerful or super cranky/clingy no matter how little or much sleep he has gotten.

Just tell me not to worry

If he didn't nap, I would think it isn't, but 12 hrs seems within the range of normal for a 20mo. I know my oldest did well on that much sleep at that age, my second dd needed more.

My DS is 16 mos and he also only sleeps about 12-13 hours total per day. He sleeps about 10-10.5 hours at night, but only 1.5-2.5 hours for his daytime nap. He has always been very difficult to get to sleep at night. I've tried everything to get him asleep earlier so that way he could get the "typical" 11-12 hours at night....but it rarely happens But as long as your DS is happy, then that's all that matters!

23m DD has been sleeping that way for MONTHS now. About 9-7am, then 2 hour nap or so. She is usually energetic and in a fine mood. I think she, unfortunately, needs less sleep than a lot of other kids. I only say unfortunately because with a newborn, I would love if she slept more so *I* could sleep more.

My DS is 23 months and sleeps about 9 hours per night. He naps typically 2 hours during the day. We have also tried many variations of bedtime but the result is always 9 hours and DS's mood doesn't necessarily match up with how long he sleeps either! I sure wish he slept a bit later in the morning because I would be less cranky. So I guess I am telling you not to worry because at least you are not alone!

Sounds perfectly normal - my 23 mo sleeps about the same amount. I, too, wish she ould go for longer at night

Normal. My DS sleeps about 9 hours at night, and takes a 1-1.5 hour nap..
