Why can't my DS sleep?

Any BTDT's?

DS is 6 months, and we co-sleep by choice. Up until the past couple of nights, he's been a great sleeper - wakes 2 or 3 times to nurse and then right back to sleep.

The past two nights, though, he has barely slept. He nurses, rolls over, lies there for 2 minutes, rolls back, nurses, for 2 minutes, over and over. I am okay with him sleep-nursing, but he won't. I've tried closing up shop and rolling over, and he doesn't cry, but it doesn't settle him either - he just keeps rolling back and forth.

He doesn't seem to be in pain (no crying or fussing) but he's barely sleeping, and I'm NOT sleeping.

Has this happened to anyone and did you figure out what it was? And more importantly, how long did it last?

not exactly the same thing, but my ds had sleeping issues due to teething @ 6 months. we put an amber necklace on him and haven't had a sleepless night since. i also noticed some difficulty getting him to sleep when ds started rolling. all he wanted to do was roll (we are having the same issue but with crawl/standing). we co-sleep too. is he napping well for you throughout the day?

Naps seem to be fine, when we're home, which isn't often lately *sigh*. He's usually okay for the first 2 or 3 hours at night, and then this starts.

Interesting... he did just learn to roll... perhaps that's part of it. If so, hopefully he'll settle down really soon. DD never really rolled over, so we didn't experience this wonderful phenomenon...

hmmmmmmmmm... mine doesn't roll, but he does do (quite annoying at 3 am) leg lifts. Sometimes so hard he wakes himself up. Power leg lifts I guess. Anyway - he's a couple of months younger than yours and has really just realised that he can move his legs (and eat his toes) so maybe it is a new discovery that is prompting the (quite annoying at 3 am) sleep movement?

DD started doing something similar to what you are describing around the same time she started being able to sit up from laying down. She didn't fuss or anything but suddenly started waking up LOTS. She settled down for awhile and is now back to waking every hour some nights. She has just learned to crawl though so I'm assuming it's a developmental thing. We co-sleep as well.

DD#1 was similar from 4 to 6 months - she was very awake, slept lousy, was up every 45 minutes, didn't want to nurse, or wanted to nurse constantly, wouldn't settle. It was a hellish 2 months, but I wrote it off to a developmental/growth spurt. She actually started sleeping great at 6 months when we moved her to the crib in her own room. Seeing what a social creature she is now, maybe it was just too much stimulation for her to be in with us? Random - every kid is different! But what yhou describe sounds very normal (but no less annoying) for a developmental spurt.

Let's hope this is a developmental stage that doesn't last long. I suspect he may indeed sleep better in a cot, but not only do we not have space, I hate the things - I'm hoping we can power through this. In the short term, I'm going to bed when he does at about 8 so that I can at least be in bed for longer... Ah well if this is all I have to complain about, I'm lucky!

Yep, we have had the same thing. Any time something new comes around....teeth, rolling, crawling, babbling....he will do what you are describing. Unfortunately we had it all kind of back to back so I can't remember the last night he slept really well since 4 months. Hope it evens out soon for you!
oh and we tried the pack n play to see if he just needed to be by himself. It didn't work any better and I missed him!

Oh good I won't bother trying that then!

My ds (almost six months) does this too! He can roll from his tummy to his back, but having trouble rolling the other way, so I wonder if he's trying to do it when he sleeps. I think he's also teething, so that could be part of it.
