Need advice: re red skin on penis

Hi all
I had my first son 15 months ago who, like his father, is intact.

I noticed yesterday that the very tip of his penis is red, but not swollen. There is no discharge and he does not have a fever.

Just wondering if I can get some advice on how to treat or not treat this. My sense is that it's basically a hygiene issue and probably caused by poo!

TIA

One of the most common posts we see here is actually the tip is red. When it is red with no swelling odds are it is just a bit of diaper rash and a little barrier cream will work wonders. Even a bit of breast milk can help.

Here is a thread about normal separation things that you may find helpful http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

When my son was one once, his testicles and groin were bright red from nappy rash, his foreskin was normal though.

No need to panic though and call some meddlesome doctor though. A bit of nappy free time and it cleared up pretty quickly.

An occasional little redness in the tip is normal and nothing to worry about.

No doubt there have been many 'medically required' circumcisions in the US for this and other normal events in normal penises.

Ballooning when urinating during the seperation phase. Normal.

White gunk under the foreskin during seperation , normal.

Nonretractible foreskin in a young boy. Normal

A small urethral opening (its a sphincter) normal.

Overhanging skin. Normal (The boy will grow into it)

All these things have led worried US parents to take the boy to a gung-ho doctor who does a 'medically required' circumcision.

Medically required circumcisions in Finland is 6 per 100,000 per lifetime.
