a baby's room thread

Our adoption is still going no where. It will be 1 year on Nov. 1st and there is absolutely no hope in sight. Our councelor keeps coming up with reasons why we are not being chosen (we have kids, etc) but it doesn't make it any less hard.

So, every once in a while when I am feeling miserable and sorry for myself, I allow myself to purchase something for the baby/baby room as a sort of reminder that someday (hopefully!) he/she will be real. Today is one of those days. It is really a slippery slope though, because if i get too enthusiastic about baby stuff it quickly turns really painful

Anyway, I have a few bits and peices of baby stuff tucked away in the closet of what will some day be the baby's room. I have a crib/changing table from my second dd and a dresser that used to be my dh's grandmothers. Surprisingly it all matches well, though the dresser does need new hardware. It is a medium wood color. I purchased most of the bedding:

and the throw rug. I have a really nice glider/ottoman in light green, though the wood is not a match for the rest of the stuff it still looks nice. I was hoping for a nature themed room, but nothing cute-sy. Maybe birds? Trees? Woodland animals? I am not sure yet really.

So... does anyone want to help me with some retail therapy? LOL! Its always more fun to see everyone else's creative ideas on baby spaces, and I need a positve baby distraction right about now.

Oh gosh, have you searched etsy.com yet? For mobiles, prints, wall decals/decorations, etc? It's pretty darn incredible. You can even have artists (at very reasonable prices) do custom work...so that beautiful tree in the bedding set could be cut from decals and you could put it up on the wall. I LOVE that bedding, by the way...if that had been around when we were dreaming of dd, it's exactly what I would have picked. Love it!!! \

We bought a mobile from this shop, and she was wonderful. She'll do custom colored mobiles, too, so you could pick up all the colors in the bedding/room...or just go with all greens and yellows, like the leaves and circles on the tree:

I would probably decorate (either with an artist's help or winging it on my own) with that tree on a large wall, then accent with the other colors. Or, maybe use the circle theme and paint large overlapping circles in parts of the room or along one wall. It's so bright and cheery and calming...beautiful!

I also love the work by this lady...her letters prints would be so cute, and she's willing to custom work (to match your themes/colors):

I have to stop looking at etsy or I go nuts. So many cute ideas!

We're nesting too!

As our current adoption plans have just fallen apart (Rwanda closed), we don't know when or where we'll adopt our daughter. But we've been getting ready little by little.

My husband and I just went to Korea for a wedding and I went to the wholesale fabric markets there and bought the most beautiful brown fabric with pink, green and turquoise flowers on it. It's very modern looking and it will go well with what is already in the nursery. We'll be having our youngest son share the room. Right now, the walls are light blue and there is a tree with birds on the wall. We have brown curtains and a green chair. His bedding is made from a modern animal fabric that has similar colors as the baby girl fabric, without the pink.

I think we will turn the closet into a room within a room for our son, putting a toddler bed in there and a curtain where the doors used to be. Probably some cool lights and something fun on the wall, hopefully some shelves where he can keep his favorite books and toys close by. Then we'll get one or two of these new storage things from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59873731

I'm really hoping to rip out the carpet and put in bamboo or hardwood floors too. We may paint one wall, or possibly inside the closet, a deep gray color.

I've also been shopping a little for girl clothes, especially things she could wear at any season. As I've been selling our boy clothes at a consignment store, I buy used things for the little girl. We've got quite a pile at this point!

And I've been sewing. I'm making a quilt, a few little dresses, even a shower cap to keep her hair dry in the bath.

Hi! I am working on our spare room now as we are almost certified to foster. Its not going to really be a baby room. I want it to be more toddler friendly because we may get a sibling set. So today I bought a bunch of fun stuff at IKEA, yay! Rug, tunnel, bath mats, hanging storage, and toys to put in it.
I haven't bought the bed or any bedding yet, but I think I've got it picked out. Want to get the emptying and painting of the room done first before I buy any furniture. I've got a plan though, thats a good start right?
