Google Voice - ditch your landline?

I would definitely ditch the landline in favor of google voice if it weren't for family objections - down the road I certainly will.

A friend of mine just had me call her today to test it out and it sounds great. Much better than the cell reception we get in a lot of places around here.

I just tried it and loved it. Not ready to ditch the landline yet. Was without a landline for a couple years but went back to it. Due to the lack of 911 capabilities and power/charging issues, I preferred the security of a landline with basic functions and a good cell plan for everything else.

Google Voice is free now for North American calls but what will it cost later? Does anybody know?

It will probably cost whatever the government decides is enough for "taxes" and "surcharges", etc.

How do you make calls on this number? Okay, I figured that out.

I am curious how people are using this service and how one would ditch the landline and go to Google Voice instead. Every call is routed to a different number. Are you using your cell phone as that other number? How does that work with cell minutes, etc.?

Will someone please walk me through this?
