Question...

My 5 (soon to be 6) yr old will be due for some vaccines by his birthday (in December). I just realized that -- because it has been years since he has any shot (I think he was 18 months the last time he got a vaccine). He is up for MMR, IPV, DtaP and I think maybe one more. I will not be doing the MMR because he had a pretty bad reaction to the last one (skin reaction). We are expecting another baby in Nov. Would it be better for me to get him updated now on vaccinations or wait until after the baby is here (I'm especially curious about DtaP because of the Pertussis epidemic). Also, do any of these shots contain thimersol/mercury???

Well the DTaP doesn't prevent transmission of the bacteria so getting him this won't do much to protect your new baby despite what the media campaign is telling you.

Only 1 brand of DTaP has "trace" amounts of thimerosol. (Tripedia)

The IPV does not have thimerosol in it but does have other preservatives and chemicals in it (as does the DTaP)
