my DS1 will be 5 in Nov. He doesn't have to be in school, or accouted for to the state till 2011 or 2012. we are conmitted to homeschooling.

we are not pushing school at all -- we see no point in pushing.

this fall ve are going to to our first "goal driected" unit. it is going to take as long as it takes. the plan is to read a ton of books -- I will use my "momma choice" at our normal reading times and "stack the stack" with books. we'll do some art projects and i'll stack the "coloring sheet stack" too.

looking at the human body and Nutrition.

My point is, my motive is, DS1 is a self limited eater, and I have such a struggle trying to get him to eat enough an the right stuff....my HOPE is that if he understand more of how it all works and why -- then it will make my discussions with him easier and also maybe i can get him intrested ...

any I want to "get our feet" a little too -- and it is something he likes too -- so it will give me a little pratcie at "guiding".

so anyone have any expereince with any of these boosk -- or have other suggestions?

Interesting idea. Please let me know if it "works"! I have a limited eater too, who will be 5 in Oct.

Anyway, we've got eating the alphabet, which is a favorite around here. If you did a letter of the week or similar you might incorporate a corresponding food from the book.

Good luck!

he is OT eating therapy -- his self limiting is beyond picky (i long for picky) so i have to be careful -- i am just hoping if he can get the "food as fule" concept i can get more amount in him, then maybe different stuff.

I am just seeking the best books -- most of our "doing" is going to be just reading; some craft or art, but no worksheets or anything -- color pages, maybe if interested.

There are just so many books -- hard to know what is worth it.

We have Eat Healthy, Feel Great. It talks about green light, yellow light, and red light foods, and then it goes on to talk about the different nutrients that your body needs. It finishes by talking about the importance of eating a rainbow of foods. I think it's a pretty good book. I hope that helps!

I don't really have anything of value to add, but I wanted to say that Gregory the Terrible Eater was one of my favorite pictures books when I was little! I thought it was so incredibly funny. I hope your DS loves it too.

This is by Dr. Sears. He also wrote "Dr. Sears LEAN Kids" and the "Family Nutrition book" that talk about his LEAN program (Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude and Nutrition). Those books would be for you and the other for your son. I loved the LEAN program's ideas because it didn't just focus on food, but all aspects of being healthy. We did this with girl scouts and had the girls make traffic light collages to illustrate some foods for each color.

We have My Food Pyramid. My middle daughter had a weight problem in early elementary school so we used it. It is very good and basic information. If I had to use any one book, it would be My Food Pyramid.
