Okay, what is this and how do I fix it?

At random times throughout a 24 hour period, my 9 day old will "bounce" on my breasts as if she's searching for the nipple, but it's RIGHT THERE. If I'm lucky, she'll latch but only for a few seconds and then pull off and start the bouncing again (I swear she's going to give herself a nosebleed!). She then will scream in frustration and continue rooting as if she's still hungry. We did this from 4:00 am until 6:00 am this morning when she finally got so exhausted, she latched, fed and fell asleep at 6:30. It's now 10:00 am and I had to pump because she didn't want to wake up to feed again. This bouncing started a few days ago and I'm about to lose my mind....

What?!!?!?

Baby cows do this too. It helps stimulate letdown. It can be really frustrating, but I'm thinking it's just a phase you ride out.

Mine added the sound effect of a hungry baby bear. Bounce growl shake head bounce growl shake head latch suck suck growl etc.

It did pass pretty quickly!

Congrats on your baby!

Yep, my ds did it too, he'd make this, "uh-uh-uh" noise while pecking away.

This always made my dh and I laugh out butts off. It is so funny to watch!! Boing boing boing!!!

It reminded us of that weird old time bird-like toy thing that keeps pivoting back and forth.... does anybody know what I mean??

ETA .... found it ... The drinking bird:

LOL! Thanks, guys. It's hard to find the humor in it at 4:00 am, but at least everyone seems to go through it too! Good to know that this too shall pass...

DS 13 weeks old still does this when going through a growth spurt working so so hard at stimulating more milk production.

See? I'm groovy now that I know it serves a function. I still get frustrated with it but not as much

Yay!!! I find I can deal with just about anything if I can laugh a little about it. Hopefully it will be a short-lived stage for you both.

my 8 day old is doing the same thing. I think it is cute and funny.

Maybe I'm the only one, but for me that is DS's "burp me" cue. 99% of the time when he does that I burp him, he lets a big one, and then when I put him back on the breast he's fine.
