Which Laundry Detergent Do You Recommend for Newborn? - Page 2

Isn't it funny...in this country, you have the choice between 'non-bio' detergents or 'biological' detergents. It is recommended that you always use a non-bio for babies and children. It is pretty simple here as no matter what 'brand', 'non-bio' or 'bio' will be labled on the front of it. Only very few brands go even farther in making themselves known for something special - like I got a sample for a detergent recommended by the eczema foundation (so recommended for use with small babies due to its delicatness).

Do they not label as 'bio' or 'non-bio' there?

We've used Seventh Generation Free and Clear for our own things for years, and continue to use it with baby things. The diapers (and whatever may get thrown in with them) are washed in Rockin Green.

We've always used La Parisienne, maybe 3/4 of a capful per large load. I like the smell and it's not too expensive.

I have sensitive skin and Ivory, for some reason, makes me break out in a rash. That and Downy fabric softener... that one sent me to the hospital, the rash was so bad...

I use Ecos Free & Clear. This has been the only one I haven't developed a rash from after a couple months of using. My husband adds OxyClean Free to our laundry and I occasionally add vinegar to towels, but it's just Ecos and baking soda for our diapers.

All Free & Clear here... I agree with PP... Dreft stinks!

I have been happy with it so far although it's not so great at getting poop stains out. We'll see how it goes as he gets older and has bigger poops!

This is a great chart! Has anyone ever used the Trader Joe's brand laundry detergent?
I recently tried Trader Joe's laundry detergent...mostly because I was looking for an inexpensive brand and happened to be there...to be honest I didn't really care for the scent and noticed it still contained some chemicals. Their shampoo also contains parabens, I believe. I usually use 7th Generation Free & Clear for all of our laundry. Sometimes I'll add a few drops of lavender essential oil. For people in the RI/Mass area: Ocean State Job Lot sells EcoPath laundry detergent and household cleaning spray, as well as a lot of the Bob's Red Mill stuff and Newman's Own Organic stuff....just thought I'd add that in their. Oh! I've found Physician's formula organicwear makeup there, too.I know that's not what you guys were asking about but I figured I'd mention it!

We use Naturoli Soap Nuts, for everyone.

Whatever is on sale.

We use 7th generation free & clear when it's on sale or Charlie's Soap.

Our LO has issues even being held by someone who uses other detergents on their clothes, so we all use it.

Country Save for everything- clothes, CDs, towels, etc.

It makes everything super soft because it doesn't leave residue. http://www.countrysave.com/announce.php

Nothing is labeled that way where I am. I don't even know what non-bio means.

We use Biokleen for everything. It's much cheaper (per load) than stuff like Tide and Dreft, plus it doesn't bother my skin.
DD1 and I have broken out in the past from clothes washed in standard detergents, even the "Free" and "Clear" versions.

We use Charlies DH is very sensitive to fragrance so we use it for all our laundry.

I like All Free & Clear and tried 7th Generation Free & Clear, but the latter doesn't clean well enough for me to be happy with it. I just steer clear of any detergent labeled "baby" as that word increases the price by itself

My son had terrible eczema as a baby and I am hoping to avoid that with baby #2. I use All Free and Clear and Downy Free and Clear. Also, Purex makes a Free/Clear that is nice and quite affordable.
I stopped using dryer sheets because they seem to irritate DS skin but liquid softener in the wash did not. Go figure.

Thread Starter
I bought All Free and Clear the other day and figured I would try it out on my clothes to make sure I don't have a reaction. If all goes well I will try this one otherwise I will try one of the other recommendations.
