It seems like the twin water is being passed around - now I'm curious, how many mamas expecting twins are there right now? Shout out, all you twin mamas!

Me and my twins- I saw both heartbeats (117bpm and 122bpm at 6w5d) yesterday

I wonder if there is something "going around"- my RE mentioned that his clinic (with a very low multiple rate, incidentally) has had more moms get pregnant with twins this month than the entire year last year.

Fellow twin moms- I'm interested to know, do you know if your babies are monozygotic or dizygotic? Mine are dizygotic. We could actually see a CL cyst in both of my ovaries- which I thought was pretty cool.

DDDC i am due at the end of feb....but I am a twin mama. I am having di/di twins. They saw the heartbeats/sacs/fetal poles at 5w and now I am almost 15 weeks, so they stuck!!!!!! I am really excited and nervous at the same time. Congrats to all you twin mamas! So far this has been a rough pregnancy ride.

::raises hand shyly:: On Tuesday (7wks 4 days) we saw two healthy little di/di beans getting snuggly. Heartbeats were strong at 149 and 155. We are psyched! 8 wks 1 day today, I'm huge, swollen, vomiting 3 times a day and positively happy anyway

If we are right, ours are mono. The heartbeat was 188, and I was exactly 9 weeks.

Hey Twin Mamas,

If you already have a singleton baby, how were/are your symptoms different with twins? My doc doesn't want to see me until 10 weeks, and I'm 7 now. I have 3 daughters, all singles. But this time, I'm more tired than ever, nauseous (although not puking as much as last times). The weirdest thing for me was that I seemed to have very strong ovulation symptoms. I wasn't charting, but I know when I ovulate. And all the normal signs I have, like fertile mucus and wanting sex (a lot!!) were even stronger on the conception cycle.

I know I'll find out soon enough, I was just curious how your symptoms are different.

Thanks.

Marsha

I was a rabbit in heat this past cycle. LOL! I have PCOS (this was my 1st cycle on Metformin) and some other hormone issues, so that is unusual for me, although i honestly don't know how I even got pregnant this cycle. My cycles usually go long, and hubby and I dtd on day 10, and not again until way after ovulation...I thought for sure I wouldn't get preg. The only thing about all that, is that my babies are identical, so from what I've read, that's all chance, not even heredity...

I've been so extremely tired, in spite of being on massive doses of Vit B, D, and Iron, doubly sick, and started feeling movement at 8w5d. Besides that - my MAMA INTUITION has been telling me lots of things lately, besides that I'm having twins. It's been downright eerie. DH is getting freaked out. ROFL.

I take it you are getting suspicious?

I have twins!!
We did IVF/FET so we know they are DZ (although I have a FET friend pregnant with MZs!). Definitely two sacs.

What are you reading? I'm surprised at how much weight we should gain. In my pregnancy w/DD I LOST weight - which was fine because I started overweight. In a twin pregnancy it sound like gaining weight is the most important thing in delaying delivery and avoiding low-weight babies.

Really?? Can you please share some of your sources? I don't want to end up way heavier than I already am with this preg. That would be so bad, because I can't lose weight with the PCOS...However, I don't want to risk the babies either.

I just finished Expecting twins triplets and quads by dr. Barbara Luke

It was amazing! It is really evidence based and the outcomes they get are great like their twins weigh 20% more than the national average. I am overweight to start with right now but she says even overweight women pregnant with twins should gain at least 35 lbs. Especially during the first trimester.

Ok, thank you! I'll have to see if I can find it at the library. Just for clarity, how much should be gained in the 1st trimester? Surely not the whole 35 lbs?? I only have 2 more weeks in mine, and I've only gained abt 4 lbs...eekk...

yes, I would love to know too

I have gained 21 pounds so far.....I am 15 weeks. I feel HUGE beyond belief. I usually gain 40 pounds total with singletons.......so this is weird, but they say the more weight gain, the better. I am just eating nonstop. Hungry all the time. Chomp chomp chomp........

The general guideline for twins is 24lbs by 24 weeks. LOTS of protein. Assuming you are not vegetarian she recommends lots of red meat (for protein and iron) and whole fat dairy. I use whole dairy anyways because it increases fertility. Eat every 2 hours. 3,500 calories a day.

That's the bare bones. It is slightly different depending on pre-pregnancy weight and stuff. I don't want anyone to take my summary as gospel!

Any of your nursing an older child? It sounds like the advice is to not nurse but I searched through the Parenting Multiples archive and I know some women do continue to nurse.

I've been drinking 2% organic milk, did she say why Whole? More calories I guess? I have not hopped on the scale, but I'm guessing with the MS I've been having I'm probably not gaining much right now anyway. Hopefully the 2nd tri will be easier!

I'm just got this book from the library, while I'm not all the way through, I'm fascinated by their outcomes. One piece that I think is interesting regarding weight- she said if your twins were conceived via IF treatment (mine were), gaining an extra ~6lbs in the first 20wks can help decrease the m/c rate.

I'm aiming to hit their fat and protein goals, IP, but I'm finding it REALLY hard. I'm a vegetarian/no cow dairy and it just is really hard to get that much protein esp. I'm considering adding meat into my diet, but the thought really makes my m/s bad

I'm nursing my 16mo, tho my milk supply has taken a HUGE hit (she's a comfort nurser, anyway). I'm trying to prioritize fluid intake, calories and rest above pretty much everything else in my life. (I'm considering anti-nausea meds to see if that will enable me to eat more...). I actually take my milk production as a good barometer for how good I'm doing on caring for myself.

Since I started having bleeding, I've actually asked a huge range of CPs about the nursing- from HR OBs to ULMWs and no one has told me to wean. My baby A has a SCH and, for me, it comes down to considering how bad I would feel if I weaned my DD for an unknown benefit to the twins and then lost them anyway. That's my worst nightmare, so, for now, I've chosen to continue my nursing relationship. Of note, I don't have the cramping that some moms report during nursing and I might re-evaluate if I did.

Okay, I don't think I'm having twins, but...
... I had zero MS with DD1 and this time I'm feeling absolutely miserable, and all my other pregnancy symptoms seem more intense than my first pregnancy
... DH is a twin, DH's uncles are twins, mom is a twin, 2 of my cousins have twins, DH's cousin has twins... in other words, it runs in the family in a BIG way.

We're not planning to do an u/s until 20 weeks. What would be other signs that would clue me into the possibility that there are two babies in there??

Comtessa, are they fraternal or identical twins in your family? Fraternal run in families, but it wouldn't matter if it was on your DH's side, it would have to be on your side as it would be an increased probability of popping 2 eggs in one ovulation vs. just one.

I'm still nursing DS - got it down to one good nursing at night, as opposed to several "play-acts" at nursing throughout the day. That seems to be working well. OB said he wants me done by 20 weeks, and looks like it will be doable. That's 10 weeks from now. IDK if it will change with the twins in the equation or not...we'll see.

I put a request for the book to come to my library from Cleveland. Hope it doesn't take too long. I'm looking forward to reading it. Please share what you learn in the meantime, because who knows how long it will take, and I don't have the money to go and buy it new right now
