where to buy soy and nut free grains??

I have tried several new grains with my DS, but they have all been from Bob's red mill....he's reacted to every single one of them. We recently discovered that DS reacts horribly to all kinds of nuts!! So, now I'm wondering if it was the actual grain or cross contamination from the mill. When he was able to eat oats, he did fine with Quaker oats, but always reacted to Bob's red mill oats.

So, where do you buy your soy and nut free grains from??? I'm looking for Teff and buckwheat specifically to retrial these.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

I am surprised to hear of Bob's Red Mill creating a possible reaction. Their GF production area is completely in another building, I have been there! Were they the GF oats? Their regular oats are processed with all the non-gluten goodies and the GF is in the dedicated facility. I stay away from most packaged things due to just the same reason.

I would try your local co op bulk (if you have one).

I am extremely sensitive to most grains. I do eat quinoa occasionally for a grain but not much more.

They are free of gluten xcon, but they have possible nut xcon, as they process nut flours in the same building (maybe same equipment)?

If you want to avoid xcon, definitely do NOT use bulk grains.

Try searching for some of sbgrace's threads- she's listed a bunch of companies that she's contacted about that.

I was told by Bob's that if you have a nut issue, not to use any of the stuff they sell. Valerie, I am working on a long list of companies that offer nut free GF grains. I am including the info I have gotten from these companies. I have NOT ordered from them so know nothing of the prices and/or quality.

Briskett Mills- Buckwheat- http://thebirkettmills.com/

*Our Buckwheat products are gluten and wheat free. They are milled in a dedicated facility. Please visit our website www.thebirkettmills.com to learn more about our products.

The Teff Company- (Teff)- http://www.teffco.com/index.html

*We are highly specialized, not really a mill in the normal sense. We only work with teff. Therefore there is no chance of crossover with any of the things you mention. Suitability of teff for you particularly is not automatic however, and you should try it to see how it affects you.
Sincerely Wayne Carlson

I also have others if you need more information. HTH

My son was reacting to Rob's. They do nut flours on the same equipment with their gluten free grains. However, I didn't *think* their gluten production shared with nuts. I guess I didn't specifically ask. Quaker oats though are nut safe (but not gluten safe). McCann's are not nut safe. I know you can get gluten and nut safe oats though I don't have company names as we don't use them.

We use Birkett Mills buckwheat (I called about Pocono line particularly though I suspect all are safe) and The Teff Company both will be nut and soy safe as the previous poster mentioned. My nut anaphylactic kiddo with other allergies and avoiding soy kid eats them.

Awesome!! We are not gluten free, as he can eat spelt without any problem. Just can't do other wheats though (weird, I know). I will definitely check out the teff company....thanks so much for the info so far!!!

Anyone else, feel free to chime in please!!!
Thanks,
Valerie
