Tea

Hi,
Someone gave me a bunch of teas, and i was wondering if you girls can tell me what they're for, and if/when i should drink them. They are all loose tea...

Nettle Leaf
Alfalfa Leaf
Rose Hips

And some Red Raspberry Leaf, which i drank during my last pregnancy, but i've read that if you've had history of miscarriage, that you shouldn't drink it in your first trimester.

I just found out I'm about 5 weeks, after a miscarriage 2 earlier in the summer.
Thanks in advance!!

my midwife has me drinking nettle tea (and dandelion tea) for liver and kidney support as well as to help my circulation (i am having a slight issue with raised blood pressure)

thats all I know of first hand.

I'm drinking a blend with red raspberry leaf, nettle and alfalfa. The alfalfa has lots of vitamin K and is supposed to help reduce incidence of post-partum hemorrhage.

I didn't start drinking it until the third trimester though because I had just had a miscarriage and was paranoid.

They are all good teas! You can add the rosehips to the others, it sweetens it up. I'm drinking a mix out of rrl, nettles, alfalfa, chamomile, hibiscus, spearmint, oat straw, dandelion root, rosehips and a tiny bit red clover. My midwives actually recommend a tea like that, Aviva Jill Romm has recipes in her book.

Thanks,....I'm wondering if i should be drinking any of them now, or should i save them for the 2nd and 3rd trimesters?

Per my midwives' instructions I've been drinking all of those plus oatstraw, dandelion, RRL and lemon balm since day one of this pregnancy. My midwives say that if I drink 2 QT a day of it (especially with lots of nettles which is what I use the most of) then there is no need for a prenatal vitamin.

So, maybe leave out the RRL until 2nd tri if you're concerned about that, but the rest is awesome to drink throughout the whole pregnancy. Tons of vitamins!!

Yeah, I'd save the RRL for later. But the others are all safe to drink now. And nettle is great for milk-making, so have some after the birth too.
