Hip pain and labor Q

I'm a long time lurker and I just have a question, but I'll give you a little background first.

I am expecting #2 any time now. My DD is almost 4 and she was unfortunately an emergency c-section. I had a horrible experience with the birth of my daughter and I'm going for a VBAC this time. I was threatened into agreeing to an induction with #1 and (long story short...) I have no idea what to expect from a natural labor and delivery. I'm pretty nervous!
The last few months I've been dealing with extreme hip pain. When I say extreme I mean it. I can barely get up in the morning, I can barely walk most of the time and if I sit down or lay down for long periods of time they seem to stiffen up and the pain is excruciating. Nothing relieves the pain either.

Q: Is this likely to effect laboring or delivery? I'm worried that I won't be able to be mobile or that it'll just hurt so bad that I'll give into drugs... or worse, another section. Anyone gone through anything like this? Any suggestions?

TIA

I had awful hip pain with all three pregnancies, but none of it really affected the birth. Well, with the first, I had an epidural. With the second, I was just completely unprepared for the labour pain and focused on that and with the third, I didn't feel any hip pain (I focused again on the labour pain and back labour). This pregnancy though, I went to see a chiropractor, that worked wonders for the pain during the pregnancy.

for me i actually found a little relief from that when i was in labor! i dont know if it's the oxytocin or the fact that you have something else to focus on or what... but it was a lot better durring labor than the night before!

I had bad hip issues with my last baby and it did complicate labor. I couldn't sit and ended up on my side for a couple ofb hours. That was ok. Ib delivered in the tub which helped

I had hip issues with DD as well. I found the chir0practor helped a bit but it did not resolve until more then 8 weeks after she was born and I finally also went to a physical therapist. If I get it again this time around I plan to not wait on the PT.

Oh that and I work at a community college with a massage therapy program so I got a really cheap 1 hour massage every week the last few months of pregnancy.

That being said the main issue was trouble walking around. My water broke with no labor... about 16 hours later I started pitocin. I couldn't really do much walking to try and get labor started or during early labor etc. Walking just hurt to much so I used a ball and the tub - love the tub!

Once things got going I was in the tub for awhile after that point I did not even think of my hip at all. I managed to get through without the epidural. I don't think the hip made any difference during the actual labor and delivery - more the lack of walking before hand (which may or may not have helped anyway).

BTW. for me it turns out the main pain was because my pelvis has shifted a bit on one side and the PT I saw Post-partum gave me a really simple maneuver to do to help get it back in place - wish I had gone earlier! It took awhile for 100% recovery but that was the key along with regaining strength.

Message & Chiro care all helped me but what I think helped the most was yoga stretches every morning. I think the swan pose is what really did the trick!

I suffer with severe hip pain with my hips subluxing, even dislocating at times. I don't remember it causing any problems with labour, I had an induction etc with first and actually thinking about, it did cause problems with that but only because I ended up in styrups. I guess the only reason it didn't affect the other two births was because I was able to move and avoided any positions that usually cause me problems. My knees have started dislocating now so I have a funny suspicion that if I were still able to have kids (got my tubes etc done last year as each pregnancy makes my fibro and EDS worse), I would probably have a lot of problems in labour now.

I was threatened with induction with my first, no, I was bullied into it and had a rotten time as well, considered a section etc for number 2 but ended up having a successful home birth (didn't have a previous section though). Good luck!!!!!!!!!
