which potty to use?

My ds is 5 and a 1/2 months. We used the smallest baby bjorn potty with him as a newborn and for the first couple of months. For the last few months we have mostly held him over the regular toilet. I recently tried him again on the baby bjorn and it is just too small! first of all, there is no room if I sit him on it, to pee. But even for pooping it just feels like he is cramped. Should I get the bigger sized baby bjorn?

He isn't sitting unassisted yet. I haven't yet settled on what the right potty is for us at this stage. Holding him over the toilet is okay- sometimes he relaxes in it but I wouldn't mind starting him to be in the sitting position on his own small potty.
But then again- is introducing sitting for pooping a good idea? I think I need a little direction from those who have done this.

I guess I am just looking for advice from those who have bdtd regarding which potties to use and/or good holding positions for a 5 and a 1/2 month old.
Thanks

We had the BB one when she was little, but it developed a hole in the bottom (ugh) so we threw it away. She then started using the toilet, but I bought a potty from IKEA to keep in the car for use in emergencies. It was very inexpensive and is big enough for her. I got it in black so it matches the upholstery so people don't look in the car and notice a potty on the floor!

Oh, up to about 9 months we held her on the little potty with her back to us. Then we used to sit back on the toilet and hold her in front of us on the seat, the we got a toilet seat at about 12 months. She is 2.5 yrs old now.
