Odd day. I sold a ton of stuff on Craigslist yesterday and today, but I bought DS a super, crazy, amazing new wooden kitchen. I guess I should count it as unnecessary spending, but I purposely sold his in order to raise money for the new one. It did cost more than I was expecting, but still only cost me $15 total when I factor in that I sold his old one for $40. I also took him out for ice cream after school this afternoon too. Not bad, but not great. I am need to reel it back in and realize that this cash I have sitting in my pocket NEEDS to stay there. The good news is, I am totally, completely caught up on old utility bills right now and payday is on Thursday! I will be socking some $$$ away in savings! Woo Hoo!

I'm determined not to drive my car today. Day 14 and I haven't been able to go one day without driving? I need to just stay put one day.

My kids can walk to school, then we are walking to playgroup, and a group of us are carpooling to a Mom's Night Out tonight. I can let that car rest today.

I'm doing a pre-emptive update. My plan is to NOT come on here and amend it.

You must be talking about another Kim. I feel like I have spent so much more this month than I meant to. I have bought way too many treats for G, and I swore I wasn't going to buy anything at my new job, but he has a fancy new kitchen sitting in front of the computer as I type. I am trying so hard this month, but it really is not going as well as I had hoped.

I guess I am still tracking, and that is pretty huge for me though. Here's to another day of trying!

KEY:

= No spend
= Necessary/budgeted spending
= Unnecessary/-non-budgeted spending

1: Paid phone bill
2: $82.00 in groceries!!!!! (I didn't think I was capable! ) and $8.58 for budgeted lunch out with family. $20.00 used jammies for DD, shoes for kids.
3: $15.00 on a rocking horse. Trouble with garage sales is that you can still do unnecessary spending and justify it because it's cheap. .

Took out $200.00 cash for an upcoming road trip. I'll try to track stuff while I'm gone!
4: $25.00 gas, $3.00 "obligatory" purchases to justify using gas station bathrooms.
5: Although to be fair, my spendthrift MIL insists on buying us EVERYTHING!!
6: Spoiled by my parents
7: Lattes out.
8: Day at zoo, but we budgeted for it in our vacation expenses.
9: Dinner out.
10: Unnecessary--Dinner at Mexican restaurant. Necessary--$90.00 night in hotel. I MISS traveling abroad, where there's affordable lodging!
11: Unnecessary--We bought sandwiches, lattes at a gas station, and ordered pizza when we got home from our trip. Our cupboards are BARE right now. Necessary--$38.00 in gas.
12: BACK HOME and BACK TO THE NO-SPEND GRINDSTONE!! $112.00 in groceries. Paid utility and repair bills.
13: $25.00 yarn for Christmas gift that I'm knitting. $5.00 admission to bouncy castle place.
14: But still an expensive day. $1500 to finish off closing costs for our refi and $250 for a home energy audit (I hope and PRAY this was worth it!!)
15: Minor upset in the No-Spend Challenge--frozen yogurt for $3.59. But it's PAY DAY!!!
16: Haven't had a "" day for awhile!! $33.00 gas, $8.50 for budgeted weekly lunch out, $25.00 in dog food.

14: Ugh! I went a little crazy today. Must have been a result of 4 NS days in a row.... Broke my goal of no clothes for me or kids, because I found some great stuff at the thrift store for $27. Not needs, but I'm a sucker for a good deal (Lands End coat for $8 and and Hanna dress for $2 for DD1, and 3 shirts for me )

Today's total:
Chicken supplies from feed store $46
Thrift store $27
Gas $36
Halloween costume for DD2 $25 (crazy, I know)
Groceries (mostly Costco) $107 (again, crazy, but most of it is for pantry and freezer)
Costco clothing for DH $62 (may end returning some, as is usually the case with DH's clothing)
Costco food court $2

Hmmm. We certainly have a lot of food in the house now. I'm going for another 3 or 4 no-spends in a row starting tomorrow.

6/20 No-spend days

Home sick today... I went into work this morning and realized that as I was sitting at a desk, I was sweating to badly that I was dripping on what I was working on. My throat hurt so badly that I could barely swallow my tea that I had beside me, so I talked to my supervisor and went home for the day. I was supposed to work at church tonight too, which pays extremely well and I can't go in there either. I missed working there last Sunday as well when DS was sick, so I have missed out on 6 hours at church, and 7.5 at my other job so far this week. I was so counting on that income to help get caught up on bills. So frustrating! Plus I bought a pizza tonight because I just feel like crap.

haha! No, I was talking about you. And yes, I was referring to the tracking. That is the hard part! I hope you feel better soon.

We refinanced last week too and same thing -- jaw-dropping refi fees. A few thousand for that. I'm trying not to think about it. In the long run it will pay off, right?

There are still 15 days left in this month. Do you have enough food to get you to the end? You may have to shift some of that budget money around.

Tax. Day. Today.

For the first time ever I had to actually WALK our taxes in to our town office because they are due today and I forgot to mail them. They charge 8% late fee penalties so I would have gotten that check there if I had to drag myself along the street with my fingernails.

Taxes are astonishingly high here so 8% would have been a huge chunk of change.

On a happy note, DH got paid today and he is a teacher so this is the first paycheck we have seen since MAY. Whew! That is such a good feeling.

I am still here! I got derailed but an unexpected (but very welcome) houseguest. I lost track of some spending during the few days I was away, I may need to just reset some goals for the month and get back on a firm track next month. To be continued . . .

Today is Payday

I'm joining you all.

The basic info:

Dh is the breadwinner with the current salary being 50k per year. We're going through Ch. 9 bankruptcy. This means our wages are garnished. I stay home with the children. There is 7 in this household. The children are ages 10 and under. We rent. Our rent is $1200 per month.

The rent is way too much for us and I wish we could get into a really cheap place so our budget is free for education, and travel. I'll trade being house poor for a one bedroom house any day! Till then, we're stuck here till next August. We've been here for a year already. We have never missed a payment. Its been really difficult but its a huge priority for us to make sure the landlord is paid on time. For now, we're counting down to the day our lease is up.

This morning I purchased 14.06 in groceries and starbucks (triple venti pumpkin spice latte) which cost $5.79. I really must get rid of my love for starbucks.

Dh went to the store and bought more groceries and just got through paying bills. I'll list that info later today when I get the specifics from him.
