Awesome. My grandma had all five of her babies in twilight sleep, so she was very skeptical of my having a HB. After DS2 was born, she was shocked that he was OK. She's a believer now, though.

I'm hoping and praying for another homebirth with this one. I've had my last 6 at home, all wonderful experiences with great midwives that I'll use this time too, Lord willing.

Me! This will be my second one. First two kids born at the hospital...wasn't bad just didn't want to be there and couldn't sleep. Third was at home and I loved it so this one, will hopefully be at home(unless we don't find a new place...then I might consider the birthing center).

I'm planning a home birth for this one. I planned one for #1 but ended up transferring after 12 hours due to 'lack of progress'. I still don't really feel I gave birth last time as I had a epi and couldn't feel anything so I'm looking forward to actually experiencing the 2nd stage this time

I had a fantastic and beautiful homebirth with DS. So fast I couldn't even fill the birthing pool in time. Gonna give it another go this time, assuming I get a midwife. They fill up fast, here, since they are free. But I'm actually super excited to give birth.

I've considered possibly doing it unassisted if I don't get a midwife... But we had some scares with teh heartrate last time. The midwife at one point pushed the baby back IN to get pressure off the cord...
How would I deal with these kinds of things, unassisted?

We will be planning a homebirth if this one sticks (it's still early, very faint bfp this morning )

We're planning our first homebirth!

Planning a home birth!

There is one practice that accepts my insurance that officially delivers at their small birth center, but I've heard tell that they will deliver at home and then bill... helpfully.

I called them early last time and then lost it, so I think I'll call when I hit 6 weeks.

planning and praying for a homebirth too - this will be homebirth #5. We had an accidental UC with our last babe, and I'll admit the thought of a UC again is really nice. DH likes the mw as backup though, and the built in "clean-up" service, lol. I'm really a bit conflicted about it all, however, and really wasn't quite ready to try and decide. Just got our BFP though, so I have a few weeks before I even need to call the mw...

I just got off the phone with my midwife! I'd known her from the birth center were I had my DD. She left a few months ago and is just starting her own home birth practice. I couldn't be more thrilled. Now I don't have to meet with the other midwives I'd already scheduled appointments with. Her practice doesn't open until November so until then I'm going to work with my family practice doctor. I simply love her and she is also having her second home birth in late winter... so she is very like minded and respectful of my wishes.

So has everyone figured out what midwife you are using (or not using?)?

Anyone getting anxious to get their birth kit prepared? I am 8 weeks 1 day today and I really want to get everything ready!

I am considering a home birth. The problem is the midwife I used for my first daughter moved and the midwife I used for my second daughter retired. I am pretty active in the "birth community" here so I know that there is no one else who will drive out here.

So I might have a hospital birth. I am seeing my gyno in a couple weeks to see if I like her as an OB also and going from there. There are a few midwives who attend hospital births but it is a hospital 60 miles away and it is kind of old and ugly. There is also a birth center but it's about an hour and a half away and I dont' want to put that kind of mileage on my car every month then every week.

Because I'm almost resigning myself to a hospital birth this time I am considering the epidural. That's another thread though. . .

I'm fairly set with my midwife, though I haven't met her yet. She's the only one available and it's a three-hour drive for us to get to her. I'm not sure when our first appointment will be. If we don't connect well in person our other option is to travel across the country and work with the midwife we used last time!

I'm officially having a homebirth! So excited just met with the midwife This will be my first homebirth my last two were natural hospital births. Homebirth is always what I've wanted and now my husband is supportive so I couldn't be happier I have no idea what I'm suppose to get..she said she'll give me a list at some point. What's also nice is I know all of the assistants because they're all doulas that I know.

I'm hoping for one but I'll have to convince my boyfriend first. We are going to have a midwife and I'm hoping she can help reassure him. He's worried about not being close enough to a hospital (we're only 10 minutes away) if there are complications.

I don't know if these means anything, but it always makes me feel better about emergencies. My MW has done hundreds of births and of the dozen or so transfers she's done, she said that none have been racing emergencies; they simply went to the hospital. So, maybe that will help him feel better? Besides ten minutes doesn't seem like anything! I hope it works out.

I had a HB with my first and plan on another. Fortunately I have now lived in 2 pretty homebirth friendly areas. As I am in a new city I can't use the same midwives, so I am currently shopping around. I am a little confused because in the area right near me (Eastside seattle metro) there seem to be many more midwives that do primarily birth center births rather than homebirths. I would like someone comfortabl with homebirths. However I am also worried this baby will be fast. (With my first the active stage to pushing was 2 hrs and I pushed for 7 minutes. NOT typical.) I don't want someone to get stuck in traffic or something. For the same reason, I don't want to go anywhere in labor unless I have to. So we'll see.

I really want a homebirth this time. I tried one with my DD, but ended up transferrring to a hospital(a transfer that in hindsight I don't think was necessary, but I still got a mostly natural birth, at least). I will have a different midwife this time--I haven't been to an appointment with her yet but I know and love her from my last pregnancy which unfortunately ended in m/c. If I get my homebirth this time around it will certainly be triumphant for several reasons!

I had both mine at home, and I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Even though it hurt like h*ll, it was incredible! This time I am delivering in the hospital because I am a surrogate and I don't feel comfortable taking on the full responsibility for the birth of their child- plus I am super introverted and could not deal with my intended parents staying at my house for more than a day! In the hospital we will both have our own space.

I am oddly a little excited to experience a whole different way of birth- I have a few issues that are super important to me (no epis, no IV, intermittent monitoring) but besides that I am pretty flexible!
