Protein/Milk? pregnant with twins

Hi, I am not sure where to post this. I am pregnant with twins and reading on weight gain, etc. I would like to gain more weight than less and certainly the 24 lbs they suggest by 24 weeks. The problem is a lot of the material I read says to drink milk. My son is dairy/soy free so we don't consume either. We don't have access to raw milk, only organic in the stores. I don't want to start drinking milk but will if necessary. Just wondering what other options I have for protein. Milk is suggested as protein since you can drink a glass and get so much (i guess). I eat plenty of eggs and meat/seafood. We use minimal processed products.
I guess I am just wondering am I going to cause problems for myself by NOT drinking milk during a twin pregnancy?

My DP is pregnant with twins, and only very rarely drinks milk. It is not a substantial source of protein for her. She does eat cheese though (some, not tons) and some cultured dairy products (sour cream, cottage cheese). She's 25weeks and has gained 25lbs on the nose. She's doing great with LOTS of meat and at least 2 eggs a day for protein. 4 eggs most days (2 for breakfast, 2 for snacks). Thankfully we have a good source for free-range eggs. Also natural peanut butter and raw nuts. Plenty of fat is important too - use lots of good butter or olive oil if you have it She used the Brewer diet for awhile (though doesn't follow it strictly) and found it to be a bit too much for her but pretty close to the mark.

Thank you for the info. What brand of butter? We just started to use kerry gold, can't find anything else. I typically love meat, problem is I am still in 1st trim. and have been nauseas with food aversions (no vomiting tho, just 24 hour queasiness). I do my best with meat but its been hard, I hope it passes soon. I haven't been able to stomach salmon even, which is my fav!

I had twins 2.5 years ago and I never drink milk. I do and did eat a lot of cheese and yogurt, but if you can eat eggs and meat and fish I would not worry about your protein intake. Also, I wouldn't worry about trying to gain weight either. I ate when I wasn't hungry and was feeling queasy in my 1st trimester because I was afraid I'd never be able to gain 50 lbs as suggested. I had only gained 20 lbs by 24 weeks, but by the 4th month or so I was gaining weight like crazy without really trying- 90 lbs in the end! Babies were born at 37.5 weeks at 6 lbs 5 oz and 5 lbs 2 oz. So I would say eat the highest-nutrient foods you can stomach when you're hungry and you'll be fine.

Congrats! I am currently pregnant with my 3rd and cannot drink milk. I am just going to do what I did last time and eat homemade bone broths and meats for protein and minerals. My last baby was very robust (9 lbs 12 oz!) and healthy. I boil beef bones for 24-48 hours and then make soups, stews ect...so delicious!

Kerrygold butter is very good quality IMO.

I get so nauseas in my 1st trimester also...I just make up for it as soon as I feel good again.
