I've got about 150 pounds to lose, and am ready to start trying in earnest. I would love to have a support group of other people who also have lots of weight to lose.
The Biggest Loser had live interviews/auditions in my city earlier this year. I'm not a big fan of the show, but at the time I had the feeling that it was my best hope for actually losing the weight, and also for some reason that it was my last chance. I debated going to the auditions but then realized that there was really no way for me to logistically be on the show (assuming I even made the cut). I realized that what I needed was a Biggest Loser type program: a doctor to make sure I was healthy, a nutritionist, a personal trainer, maybe even a therapist, and a group of people who are all in the same boat to commiserate with and support each other, and hold each other accountable.
I've gone to the doctor and gotten the go ahead to diet and exercise. The only thing she found wrong with me, other than my weight, was low vitamin D levels, so I've started supplementing that (10,000 iu, 5 days a week for 12 weeks, then 1000 a day thereafter).
I started the South Beach Diet today, but the Phase One, 2 week meal plan that is outlined in the book is a ridiculously low amount of calories for someone as big as I am, so I'm using the SBD food guidelines, but will be tracking my calories on DailyPlate, and using that as a guideline too to make sure I'm getting enough food.
I'm going to be trying to find an obese-friendly personal trainer this next week, but until then I will be wearing a pedometer and trying to get 10,000 steps in a day, as well as doing other activities like biking and swimming a couple times a week.
I would love company, encouragement, and support. If you'd like to join me here (or in the tribal area if that is more appropriate, mods), I welcome you. Please introduce yourself and lets get going together!
And if this group already exists here on MDC, please help me find it.

and have been hitting the sweets hard. I don't want to spiral down that path again. I'd like to be 135, so 60 pounds to go!
