Wonderful book recommendation?

My twins turn 2 in January and for Christmas and their birthday I would like to get them each a new book.

What are your 2yr olds really liking or even loving for books right now? I would like to get hard bound books so they last longer. I usually take the dust jacket off to preserve that and my twins are not that hard on books so I am ok with hard bound books.

I am looking for funny, silly, easy to read and for them to understand, stories that have rhymes.

Thanks!!!

At 2 my son absolutely loved all of the dinosaur books by Jane Yolan - How Do Dinosaurs Play With their Friends and How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon and others. The pictures and wording are hilarious, so much so that I never got bored reading them night after night.

I just got the How do Dinosaurs go to bed and Eat supper/dinner from the library! They are cute books. I will add them to my list. Thanks!

My son is really into trains, cars, and other automobiles.

One of his favorites is:

Cars and Trucks and Things That Go

ETA: I have no idea if this has a story because DS will not stay on a page long enough for me to read words. I usually just have to quickly make stuff up as we go along. But, with this particular book, he will look at it on his own for long periods of time.

We have the Richard Scarry Cars that Go! My older ds loves it! There is a bit of a story line. If you scroll down that amazon page, under Product Description, it tells what the story line is. It's a cute book!

Are you familiar with Sandra Boyton books? Very silly, but excellent rhyme and rhythm.

Actually, we are very familiar. I have Snuggle Puppy memorized and Pajama Time almost memorized! I should look for another one of hers. I need to go find our Belly Button one as the boys are really into their belly buttons right now!

Any recommendations from Usborne books? I really like Usborne books!

not Usborne and some don't rhyme, but these are my DS's favorites:

And the Train Goes (awesome book... lots of fun sound words and good rhythm, really interesting illustrations)

The Little Engine that Could (although I really hate this book)

It Looked Like Spilt Milk (DS likes to help me "read" it)

Caps For Sale (long time favorite)

I Stink and I'm Dirty (these are both by the same author... one's about a garbage truck, the other about a loader... if you read them with a rough attitude voice they are really fun)

Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (not rhyming, but we just all love this book at our house... it's just such a neat book)

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom... fun rhythm, and there's a good scholastic video of the book, too

The Lorax (can't go wrong with Dr. Suess)

All of the Books in the Brown Bear Brown Bear "series" (another one that DS will "read along" with)

The Goodnight Train (not the best imo, but DS loves it)

Two Little Trains

Jamberry is a favorite in our house.

My DS likes all the Curious George books and Strega Nona. We don't own them, but they are what he goes for at the library every time. He's 2.5 now, but started in on this around his 2nd birthday.
