Could you go feel your baby's head for me please?

I know, an odd request. But during my 8mo's bath tonight I noticed a slightly raised "ridge" along the top of his head - just a few inches long, from front to back. I've never noticed it before, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's new. Does anyone else's LO have anything like this? I'm a little concerned, especially because his head has always been on the small side (35th percentile, and he's a BIG baby) and I'm slightly neurotic and worrying something's wrong with his head now. TIA!

Thanks, I feel a little better. Google came up with some scary stuff... We have a ped appt in a few weeks anyway.

V had a ridge for the first 6 months- her ped said it's just a plate thing (of course the technical term escapes me), and not to worry.

No ridge here, but I remember panicking about these two little lumps DD had at the back of her neck. Pedi assured me that they're her lymph nodes. Funny the things we notice and freak out about!

You probably don't need to worry, unless head shape is abnormal, in which case you want doc to look at it!

my 11mo ds has one. I think it's weird, too. I've never asked the dr, but we've been to all his well baby visits, and he feels his head every time and hasn't mentioned it.

5 mo DD has a horizontal ridge across the back of her head. It's normal for her plates to still be moving around and getting into place. She has reflux, so we have to put her in the swing for naps, where she likes to rub her head side-to-side. I think it's kind of cute, makes her hair stick out a bit! If you're worried, definitely have your pedi check it out.

It's probably normal, but definitely point it out to the ped. There is something called craniosynostosis (sp?) where the soft spots close early, leading to ridging like that. In extreme cases it can be dangerous and requires surgery. But that's pretty rare! Most likely it's just where baby's plates are shifting.

Have you ever seen bald men? Like young basketball players, for example? I've seen some funky shaped heads out there! LOL!

my son had it for a bit... we saw the chiropractor and he "adjusted" his skull (yeah that sounds weird but it was very gently like a massage). Anyway he said its normal (plates moving and all) but that you should have it adjusted because you want it to fuse flat. people that it doesn't fuse flat for have a higher risk of headaches and migraines.
So once he told me that I started having everyone feel there heads! LOL And it actually held true for the poeple I knew who were prone to headaches and migrains.
I just thought I would pass that info along.
