Dentist predicting baby’s gender by looking at my gums?

Only 12W now. Went to the dentist today. He asked if I wanted to know what I’m having. Said that just looking at my gums could predict. He told me to smile big, looked & said, “boy.” Then his dad, also a dentist walked by & he asked for his opinion. He agreed –boy.

I asked them how accurate they are & they said, “Pretty accurate.”

I vaguely recall having heard of your gums changing in pregnancy, but can’t recall if I’ve heard of an ability to predict baby’s gender. I Googled & can’t find ANYTHING about this myth. (Which I find odd – Ha, usually you can find any strange thing on the ‘net!) Anyone ever heard of it?

hmmm....my dad was a dentist and I don't think he ever did anything like that!

Oh, yes, I definitely will! I plan to have the anatomy screen at 19W to find out.

There are a lot more boys then girls on both sides of our families - not sure how much of a predictor that is. Also we have one DC & he's a boy.

& I think I remember reading in the book, "Taking Charge of your Fertility" that boy sperm swim faster - so if the egg is already there, it's more likely to be a boy. (Not sure if there's truth to that, or old-wives'-tale.)

This baby was conceived on day 22 of my cycle & my cycles are normally only 27-28 days long, so it's very likely that egg was already hanging out. (I wasn't charting though.)

So there are a few little things pointing towards boy. But who knows?? 7 more weeks until ultrasound time when we really find out.

some people are really set in their old wives tales... i think that might be more what they are basing it on

My dentist told me I am having a "girl". He said that when the color of your gums is pink you are having a girl, but if your gums have a bluish color, you are having a boy. He said something about the difference in hormones that was related to specific gender. This is my 9-th week so we will see...:)

This is so crazy and totally new on me! I've never heard that.
