I don't think so. It's just a shortened form of "buttocks."
"Buttocks" sounds overly formal, for some reason.

| that if a child is ever sexually abused it could actually help the molester get away with their crime if the child can't describe what they were exposed to or what was done to them in proper anatomical terms |
So we ended up discussing what she had and didn't have lol.| Penis was one of the first body parts DS could point to because DH taught him. |
| DD1, 4, knows that babies come out of vaginas, and she is proud to tell everybody that she wants to help pull babies out of vaginas when she grows up. She wants to be a "baby puller" and she gathered this terminology from watching birth videos with me |
I have no problem saying the word - in fact my sister & I discussed today that I guess the penis jokes are over now LOL
Well that time is coming soon anyway with a little guy around and starting to understand the conversation. I think that is a lot of the problem - we always say it is such a funny word, and to teach it to DS in a serious context feels awkward. But I am sure I will be saying it to him many many times in the future

IMO there are no proper or necessary alternatives, and teaching slang words is a disservice. I believe there have been threads here before discussing information, I think it was in Protecting The Gift, that alleges that if a child is ever sexually abused it could actually help the molester get away with their crime if the child can't describe what they were exposed to or what was done to them in proper anatomical terms.
Now, we all hope nothing like that ever happens to our children (or anyone else's!) but if it ever did happen to my daughter and the perpetrator wasn't convicted because she couldn't adequately explain what happened to her to the police, I would never forgive myself for not arming her with the correct terms for her own body parts. |
