Seattle and The Eastside: Where are the crunchy people?

I had a great group of crunchy AP mamas in Utah. They were a delightful tribe. Since we've moved to this area I've found one group, and while I love how they treat children I don't really relate much in other areas. I'm sure there are many like minded mamas in these parts but I'm finding them surprisingly elusive. Are there groups I'm unaware of or crunchy family spots I don't know about, you would be willing to share?

Seattle has an API group and a babywearing group (you can Google them, I believe.) Check out meetup.com for groups based on your interests...I know there are several AP groups on there. I am a part of an "Ohm Mama's" group on meetup that isn't strictly AP but along the same lines, and that has been wonderful for me so far...I really feel like I fit in there and hope to get to know the other mama's better in the future. I don't know how old your kids are, but there is a store that also holds classes for infant through toddler...I haven't been yet, but I'd imagine it'd be a good place to meet crunchy people: birthandbeyond.com has more info.

I am in North Seattle and have also had difficulty establishing a support network here. My biggest problem is that the mama's I meet are soooo sweet, but it's hard for me to relate due to being a young college student/nanny, and struggling with money and trying to figure out who I really am and what I want to do with my life...we parent similarly but we don't have a lot in common otherwise...just in very different places, you know?

I am too on the Eastside and looking for Crunchy people! and have not found them. We are in Woodinville, and I can find them in the city but not in more outlying areas. Contact me if you are still searching.

Have you tried La Leche League meetings?  I found a lot of natural living/ homebirthing/AP people there.  How old are your kids?

I have an 11 week old and have really been wanting to meet some crunchy mamas. We joined a PEPS group but were asked to leave 'cos we don't vax. I love having online support but it's no face to face, ya know?

Birth and Beyond is great, though. We just took an EC class there this morning and met three lovely families we hope to hang out with.

I want to meet more mamas locally! I nannied for a long time and always had an easy time making nanny friends, I don't know why I'm having such a hard time as a mommy. Of course, my baby is still new and still has a rather unpredictable schedule during the day and usually goes to bed by 6 and I feel guilty going out for dinner and not having him in bed where he'd prefer to be.


Anyway! Hi, I'm Lauren and my husband, son and I live in north Seattle. :)

Me, too :)

Oh, well. We just were in Seattle, and it was grim. 4 days downtown and not only were we in the minority as parents I didn't see a single other baby wearer, which is weird coming from north Idaho.

Ya, I don't think I've ever seen that downtown, either. If you visited any parks outside of downtown, you'd be more likely to see it! I wear my guy a lot when we go on outings. 

 

I'm still hoping someone will see this and want to be my friend! ;)

I think that's a downtown thing.  I live here and see as many baby carriers as strollers. :)

Just joined Mothering! I recently moved from West Seattle to Woodinville and am looking for some fellow crunchies here as well :) I can tell you that West Seattle is full of them (many baby wearers, no or delayed vaxxers, etc) but thus far, not finding too many that I relate to on the Eastside. If anyone wants a meet up, let me know--think that would be great! Have a toddler and another on the way soon...

Either way I'd love to meet other like-minded families. I have an almost- 18 -month-old and planning a homebirth with Bebe #2 due in February.

I'm in Bellevue, with a 21 month old, 4 year old and 9 year old. The eastside is much less crunchy than Seattle. My friends don't usually agree with me, but they tolerate me! :)

Way late to the thread, but moved to W'ville recently from Seattle and left work in Oct after the birth of my 2nd. Extremely happy with all the major changes in my life, but lacking friends and a support group of naturally-minded mommas. PM me if you are interested to a meet up. I have a 2-yr-old girl and a 3-month-old boy.
