we live in a small village, have our own well, so the water is not treated with anything and is very good. In the hot weather I could give DD two baths a day (for p l e a s u r e!), never seen her skin "dry".

I give her a bath once a day as part of her bedtime routine, though I don't sweat it if she misses one occasionally if she is overtired or whatever. Until she started getting mobile, the daily bath wasn't necessary for cleaning purposes except maybe her diaper area, but after ~3 months or so yeah, 3 times a week was about right to keep stinkies from building up in her neck/armpits

So at this point (9 months) I wash her hair as it needs it with Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo (usually ever other day or so) and wash her body with at least water and usually with plain white Dove bar soap. I kind of try and wash her everyday, that way if she is having a cranky day, I can just do water and/or play in the bath and not worry about it.

once a week
sometimes less often than that
ds2 hates the bath - screams through it so we don't bother unless he needs it - like a massive poo-nami
about once a week now that dh will bathe with him - less screaming

Our HB friendly pediatrician said we don't need to bathe her the first year unless she "poops to her nose or spits up to her toes". So we didn't bathe her much at all (once a month or just for fun) and she smelled wonderful and never had any skin problems. The biggest thing was dried milk behind the ears, so we just wiped them when we noticed it.

Twice a week is usually sufficient for us. And for soap he uses what we use, just a fragrance free bar. That's it. When they can sit on their own then they shower with you

I agree w/those of you that say the nonmobile ones usually don't need a bath, but the reason I give mine one more often is because he wants one. My LO just turned 5 mo and he loves bath time and I think it's something fun I can do w/him too (there's not all that many fun games you can play with a 5mo old all day, LOL). Basically, if they like it and it doesn't hurt, than why not? I use all natural Chagrin Valley baby soap for the dipe area and rarely anything but water for the rest of him. We bathe right before bed and then massage lotion (pure shea butter, jojoba oil, and lavender oil), then nurse to sleep. It's a great bedtime routine that he expects and loves and so do I

Lazy here, daily washcloth-baths but probably 3x/mo in a tub, but we're not quite mobile yet. The older children are showered daily, though!

I just bathe my guys when they poo, which is like every 5-7 days. A quick wash off in the sink.

Everyday especially since my son has learned that water mixed with dirt makes mud.

DS is 5 months and up until a couple weeks ago was getting a bath only about once a week. we use a little California Baby shampoo but since it was only once a week usually I used it every time. Since starting solids a couple of weeks ago he definitely gets a dip in a sink of warm water! He loves it! he especially loves being tickled with a wet washcloth or wet hands under his chin while in the bath. He really gets going! Its hysterical!

Just wondering for all you soap/shampoo-free mamas and families out there: what do you do instead? Just water? I've heard of different methods while doing this but was just curious. Thanks ladies!

That sounds lovely! i have been thinking about a nightly bath since DS started solids (he's pretty sour smelling by bedtime!) and I'm trying to get him into more of a routine- up until now its been pretty random. Do you mix the lotion yourself?

Yep! Just plain ol' water. When she's older, if there's stuff crusted on her that water alone doesn't loosen (like in her hair) I'll use a little oil. I am also shampoo and soap free myself, and use oil to wash my skin. I never need lotion, I never have breakouts, I always have soft soft skin! I wash my hair with conditioner and use oil as my styling product. The oil I use for everything bathing is Japanese camellia oil. It's thin but moisturizing.

Thanks, Aimee! I've always used natural/organic soaps and shampoos but I only wash my hair once a week as it is so I don't think it'd br hard for me to get used to. I can't remember the last time I used a styling product in my hair. Probably middle school, haha. DP used to use gel in his hair when we first started dating. So glad he's over that. Haha.

Yep...I have such dry skin that I started buying these and mixing them once every couple months. It's a bit of a process (heat, whip, cool, rpt until fluffy) but well worth it for me and him! (my pregnant belly loved it too).
I think the routine really has helped him sense when it's bedtime and winds down. We've tried adding a book, but he's ready for bed after bathtime!!
