Help needed with heartburn - Page 2

post #21 of 27
I ha e been dealing with this and one thing I have found is a big deal is sleeping on my left side, that keeps your stomach opening pointing up, less likely to spill stuff.

The other thing I notice is I have more heartburn when I'm hungry or about to get hungry, so never letting my stomach get totally empty seems to help a lot

Water helped me. I thought I was getting enough, but started slacking off for a couple weeks about a month ago. And for the first and only time during this pregnancy I had heartburn. it sucked! I upped my water intake, and have had no heartburn for the last 2 weeks.

Good luck! Hope you find something that works for you!

Last night when I lay down for bed I started feeling nasty again. I had already had papaya. DH suggested a glass of milk. It definitely helped a lot. Water, for me, just makes it worse, which is such a pain because I get so thirsty at night but when I drink from my water bottle it makes the heartburn flare up and then I can't sleep.

Acupuncture can help if you are having it all the time. A liquid cal/mag supplement helped mine, as did cutting sugar, coffee, tea, chocolate, and mint from my diet. Didn't do much for my mood, however.

Most of the OTC meeds have to be taken daily at about the same time to be most effective. And they can take up to two weeks to really kick in. So you might want to continue with those as you search for other solutions.

As for the throat pain, I found ice cold almond milk soothing.

lol i just posted this in another thread;

"When the nausea first hit in the beginning I realized my body was rejecting ANYTHING acidic(sp?) and all of the acidicity would gather to the top and just come up leaving all solids in my stomache. As the nausea went away the problem with the acidic foods stayed but it wouldnt come up anymore. it would just sit there on top in my stomache laughing at me. the tiniest bit of air would send off fire alarms causing me to jolt up in bed and burb myself(moving your abdomen around in a spiral motion really helps to get stuck air bubbles out) then one night it was so bad that i forced myself to do the deed and puke. I instantly felt better (nothing but acididc liquid came up, all the food i had eaten that night stayed down). This is about a once a week recurrance for me when it gets so bad i cant even sleep. Of course i try to avoid the acidic liquid in the first place( eat/drink lots of dairy. Dont down water before bed if you had something acidic that night, drink milk or yougurt, or oatmilk. something that will coat your esophagus. CHEW YOUR FOOD REALLY WELL!!! chunky food makes your digestion system have to work harder and being pg puts a damper on how fast thigs move through you, so keep that balance! watch out for greasy oily stuff. that will casue heartburn too! and TRY to eat smaller more meals instead of society's 3 meal a day thing(no animal ((that means us too)) is supposed to eat 3 square meals a day, our system just dosnt work that way)

If you do have to get to the unfortunate point of yacking on purpose drink something coating and brush your teeth after. hope this helps!

PS IT IS PROVEN THAT TUMS WILL SCREW YOU IN THE LONG RUN. "

OMG pears have been a life saver for me. i would also try papya JUICE. yummy.

Annette, I thought of you when I walked into Whole Foods yesterday and saw promotional flags about some sort of heartburn remedy. I was handed two bottles of... wait... WATER. Natural artesian spring water that's supposedly got a lower (erm, more basic?) pH than normal. They say it helps reduce stomach acid and so can help various ailments including heartburn. I now have four bottles (free!) but have yet to try it.

That's funny, Heather.

Well, I bought the ACV and I just couldn't do it. The smell! I am still very gaggy.

What has been working is Zantac and almonds. I don't know why, but I'm going with it.
