Popping off before he's even latched on?

So DS is 10 months old. Sometimes when I nurse him (or try to, anyway), he will pop off almost before he's even latched on, lol. He'll act all interested and stuff and get a good latch, but then just take 1.5 sucks (not even enough for a swallow) before he pops off and looks at me. Then he does it again and again, lol.

What does this mean?

Guess my baby's weird, then. lol

If your baby is wierd, then so is mine because he does the same thing sometimes. I don't know, really, I think he just likes reassurance that it's available or he gets distracted because he's really really busy at this age!

Is he crying or fussing when this happens?

Neither. He is in a good mood when he does it. Sometimes he will smile at me when he lets go, other times he'll just look at me, lol. But he is never upset at all.

At that age two common possibilities are either distractibility (the world around is much more interesting than mama's boobies lol), or impatience prior to let-down. Babies work out that popping on and off triggers a let-down more quickly than just plain old suckling!
