i love love love listening to the radio.

of course NPR is one of my favourites with science fridays and click and clack brothers, and a local farmers show.

one of my absolute favourite though is MOTH radio - a bunch of people just getting up and telling 'real' stories in front of a mike. unfortunately its a pay radio that you can get at itunes.

what are your favorite radio programs.

We listen to the music mostly Alt. Rock. Matt Pinfield is now on a local station. (matt pinfield from 120 min)

I also listen to Mark Levin for news.

Sunday morning is breakfast w/ the Beatles.

Oooh! We love NPR,too-it's our default radio station in our car. I listen to whatever program is on when I get in the car, but I especially enjoy Fresh Air. I also love This American Life

We have a terrific local npr station, kcrw, as well as Pacifica "home of the pointless rant".

Btw. Look around they play moth and it is not fee abased you might be able to stream it.

Great music and food and local politics.

Love the Moth! I listen to it for free over the internet and download it free on to my Ipod.

A while back, NPR had a show called the Bryant Park Project that got cancelled

Anyway, some of the hosts went on to do other things.

Check out The Sporkful and Too Beautiful to Live. You can get both for free over the internet or download podcasts for free. Too Beautiful to Live is not as high-brow but it is witty and funny. He often has Ira Glass from This American Life on as well as Dan Passman and a few of his other NPR buddies.

I'm obsessed with Fresh Air. Every interview and topic is interesting to me, even if It's something I would have previously thought boring or irrelevant. I can't get enough. I also like Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on the weekends.

I download the Moth podcast and love it. NPR also does StoryCorps, but the stories are much shorter.

DP listens to the local "progressive radio" station, but it's too much for me.

I love NPR! Bad thing is that I can't get it in on my radio at work (and you're not allowed to do streaming audio, either, darn!). I do listen to a big local AM station at work, but it's ALL local programming and none of the extreme syndicated stuff.

I'm TV free and love me my radio!

i miss not having another option to NPR. i wish i could get BBC and listen to their plays and talks and other programs too.

i wonder if there are any other radio stations or programs like them. or even like Moth Radio. stories. thoughts. reports. not music.

I LOVE all the above! I usually listen online or downloaded to an iPod. I also love old time radio, like Antioch Radio . And, of course CBC, shows like Vinyl Cafe and the Current. As an American transplanted to Canada, I appreciate CBCs different view on most American issues.
Meemee, can you not listen to BBC online where you are? Radio 4 has a site that lets you listen live and back for the last week. But maybe you can't access it everywhere.

I became a radio fan by accident.
My job requires me to work alone in a small room for a few hours everyday-I'm an introvert so I love it. I used to listen to cds all the time because I can't stand annoying commercials. My cd player broke and I began trying every station on the dial. Once I discovered NPR(we have a good local station) I was hooked.
I swear my living room is like an old pre-television era type of living room. We all come running when our favorite "show" is on.

My favorite NPR shows are:
Speaking of Faith
To the Best of Our Knowledge
This American Life
Radiolab
Wait, Wait Don't tell me---this show makes me laugh out loud every week!
Fresh Air

My town recently got its SECOND radio station. Yup, we've gone from one to two: KYUK-AM and KYUK-FM. Both are public radio stations... the AM station is more like a regular NPR affiliate and the PM plays mostly music (a variety). I mostly listen to the AM station, DH prefers the FM. Either way, no commercials , but the music selection is... random and at times odd.

When visiting Central Wisconsin (my "other home"), I tend to favor the local college station, WWSP, when I visit Minneapolis (where I used to live and my bestest friends still live), I favor the public music station, The Current. Both rock muchly. Both are available online, so I *could* listen to either, but our bandwith is so limited up here, it's hardly worth it.

I love Sirius XM satellite radio. I have had it for 5 years and it never gets old. Love the music choices - commercial free, any genre you can think of. I also love NPR, CBC, BBC etc on there too. Oh yeah, and Howard Stern!

1. This American Life
2. The Moth
3. Radiolab
4. Morning Edition
5. All Things Considered

#5 used to be Talk of the Nation with Neil Conhen, but WFPK replaced it with that silly Q show. As you can tell, Ive given my top five quite a bit of thought, but hey, we dont have tv.

My 2 dislikes of NPR:
Prarie Home Companion
Whadda ya know?

Love public radio, but right now we don't have a stand-alone radio. I can listen over the computer, but don't often seem to. I can stream through the television, but if I have the t.v. on, I'm more likely to get sidetracked to watch the news or something else. In any case, the t.v. is in the basement family room and I spend most of my time on the main floor of the house. So I usually only get to listen in the car, and since I don't have a car most days, that's pretty rare too. I really miss the radio.

We don't have a radio due to recent moves, decluttering etc. I'm thinking this is a good idea.

oh mama!!! if you are willing to spend that kinda dough then i'd advice you to go for something like this - the extra $$$s are sooo worth it.

i cant wait to get something like this myself.
http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/.../wms/index.jsp

the local state school has this and they use it to do PE with the kids on the open air fields. and i have heard it at my friends house used to wake us up. U N B E L I E V A B L E sound. really and honestly. everything is crystal clear at whisper note. it is crystal clear at shouting level. they are amazing. the practise teachers use their ipod to play their kinda music.

BOSE is pricey. but so worth every single penny.

Does BBC not do any live streaming? Or free podcasts of their shows?

I average 4 hours/day listening to NPR. Recently my dd (almost 9) asked to listen to the local "pop station." I turned it on for her, and a commercial came on. She and ds (6) asked what it was. I told them it was a commercial. They laughed and laughed. They couldn't believe there were commercials on the radio.

Also, when ds was 3 I heard him walking around singing the theme to All Things Considered. Around the same age, I told him I wanted to listen to NPR. He said, "You mean National Public Radio?" Many of the programs have led to many interesting and informative discussions with my kids, that's for sure.

I listen to Dave Ramsey most days. I like NPR, but the times of day I turn it on, it's always music.
