What to do with this incipient mullet?

My DD is finally getting in a reasonable amount of hair...sort of. The hair on the back of her head and forward as far as her ears is down to about earlobe length but the rest? Not so much. Her little widow's peak is about to mid forehead and the hair on the sides of her head is variable but quite short. All in all, we're headed to business up front, party in the back, Billy Ray Cyrus circa 1991.

What have other people done with this awkward stage of hair growth? Trim the back until the rest catches up? Accept that this will pass in a few months? Invest in more tiny hats?

My friend's DD was just like this until she was, oh, about 3. Lovely long, blond ringlets at the back and sides, and old-bald-man shiny from her ears on forward. My friend once asked her ped "What the heck's up with that hair?" and he told her it would grow when it would grow.

She's almost 5 now and has a full head of blonde locks. Hang in there!

I'd wait it out and just let 'er grow! It seems possible that maybe the shorter parts might catch up? At the worst, someone will make a comment and you can throw out that Billy Ray Cyrus retort. That had me laughing outloud

DD had a mohawk and a mullet until she turned 1, and the hair she had was quite long. I received enough comments along the lines of how pretty she would be if she just had normal hair that I eventually did trim the back of her hair so her mullet was less mullety. For some reason the back of her hair where her mullet was has always had the most awful texture and ends up as a dreadlock so chopping it seemed like our best option. I personally thought she was gorgeous either way.

DD too! She's 18 mos, with beautiful soft red curls on the top and sides, and a big dred in the back. Whatever, right?!
