Allergic reaction?

I've searched this forum every which way and haven't found quite what I'm looking for, so sorry if this is a repeat of a similar thread.

My son is 7.5 months old and EBF. He has had bites here and there of banana, avocado, yogurt, egg yolk, and mashed potato, all uneventfully (though he wasn't terribly interested).

Today I thought I'd blend some frozen mango, which I shared with him. I also gave him some avocado from my plate at dinner. Tonight, he threw up somewhat violently 4 times, then nursed, then fell asleep (he is presently sleeping on my lap and seems all right). No hives, no diarrhea, no runny nose/watery eyes. His stomach was pretty noisy post-mango, but no vomiting until hours later.

He's fine now, so I'm assuming it was a food allergy. Has anyone experienced one without hives/rash?

Any input would be appreciated! TIA!!

My kids have food intolerances not allergies, though vomiting is one of the reactions they've had. How long between the ingestion and the vomiting? Mango is related to something else isn't it? I'm getting some fuzzy recollection.... oh yeah, cashew and pistachio. Not sure if that helps (as in, do you guys have a nut allergy in the family?). It could be an allergy, could be an intolerance, could be a virus. I figured none of that was helpful, which is why I didn't answer before. You could get him RAST (blood) tested if you're worried.

No nut allergies. I was wondering if food intolerance would trigger that strong of a reaction. He threw up about 7 hours after eating the mango; however, his belly was making strange noises and he was fussy the whole 7 hours.

I'm sure it wasn't a virus as there was no fever or diarrhea and it lasted so briefly.

I guess I was just wondering if food allergies or intolerances could show up in a quick bout of vomiting or if there's most always some sort of rash. Everything I've read seems unclear to me.

Thanks for the response!

My DD does have food allergies. She once had an episode of vomiting all night long following a fake mac and cheese product for dinner. I figure it was the annatto coloring. All her other reactions have been with hives, wheezing, swelling, etc. That night was unique in that the only thing going on was the vomiting. We don't have food allergies in the family, just alot of other types of allergies (which is a risk factor). Hope that this was a one time only event for your DS.

My DD2's reaction to milk is vomiting. My DS's reaction to milk as an infant was vomiting, and now it's his reaction to egg. They don't have accompanying rashes. Both of them have intolerances, not IgE allergies. With DS, he would vomit 24 hours after I ingested milk. With DD2, last time I tried her on milk, she vomited a couple hours later. With DS and egg, he vomited half an hour after he tried the cake I baked it in. Allergies/intolerances run the gamut for symptoms. You can have a combination of symptoms, one symptom, one symptom for one food and another symptom for something else, etc. Vomiting can be either an intolerance or an allergy though, and because mango is related to almonds/pistachios, I'd probably get the child tested (though most allergists say that allergy tests under 2yo are unreliable). Either way, I wouldn't be feeding mango for a while.

Thanks so much! I will consider getting him tested. I wondered also about the acidity factor--I know I've read to wait on citrus, and mango is an acidic fruit.

Mango, avocados, and banana are all latex cross-reactive foods. Has he reacted before to the avocado? Or maybe both together were too much???

I've read about latex allergies, but he didn't react to banana or avocado when he had them, so I didn't think it would be that. Maybe having both? Hm. :/ I'm afraid to give him any solids now!
