It is amazing that he can live off so little food!

I'm not worried - my 21 mo DS is a happy, healthy, growing guy - but it really does blow me away how little he eats. Yesterday for example: 1/4 piece of toast, 10 blueberries, 4 strawberries, 1/4 piece of pita bread with cheese, two tiny slices of sausage (picked out of pasta dinner). He ran around like crazy, happy as a little lark. We had a great day. He simply is never, ever hungry. I ask/offer constantly and he almost always says no. He knows how to tell me he's hungry and he does when he needs to, it just rarely happens. He's never been a big eater and weaned himself at 16 mos. He didn't start to eat more when he stopped nursing. He is falling off his growth curve a bit but ped isn't concerned and my instincts say he's fine. But I'm just still astounded! (I have a fast metabolism and need to eat a LOT or I go bonkers so I really can't relate to DS in this aspect.)

Any other moms of healthy toddlers who survive on not much more than dust? Do you worry or do you just let it go?

My little guy is a big eater and is still nursing! But a friend of mines children were the same as yours. The Dr. told her as long as they are getting one full balanced meal a day, that they are ok!

My toddler has days where she eats almost nothing, and then a day or two occasionally where she eats a ton. I think they generally know how much they need. If he starts losing weight or becomes lethargic or something, I'd worry, but otherwise I would be OK.

Dr. Sears' Baby Book says something about this...something like "Don't worry about a balanced day, worry about a balanced WEEK."

I'm not sure if you do/tried this, but I put a few snacks in a little bowl where ever he is playing or on a kitchen chair - he'll run by and grab a few nibbles and run off playing again.

this morning he was all done with his breakfast (whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter and honey), but only ate about 1/2 of it and a 1/4 pear. After he got down I simply took the remaining pieces into his play area and within a few minutes he grab it and ate it up.
