Homeopathy for cold in a child

Hi there...

I can never settle on a remedy when reading either of my homeopathy books, several seem to be describing the symptoms!

My ds is 6 years old and woke up last night with a sore throat, he said it was sore when he swallowed. (tonsils seem a bit swollen but no white or yellow on them) Today he has a runny nose with clear runny discharge that is irritating to his top lip, which went red and he held an ice pack on it which he said helped. He has no fever, but is lethargic and is right now taking a nap which is unheard of for him normally.

mercurius seems to be the one that best fits the symptoms, but could also be belladonna?

I know its probably not great to get prescription advice on a message board, and usually I don't give anything unless hes really uncomfortable...for sure he will be getting vit C and some vegetable juices which will probaby do the trick in a few days too!

My first thought is allium which will help the clear snot really quickly. For the throat and lethargy I'm thinking belladonna. Try those for a day and if you don't notice an improvement try a different remedy.

don't forget vitamin D with the C... I know you are looking for homeopathic remedy, but here we just do the immune support and it works well. 35 Iu per pound of vitamin d is a daily dose, when sick I double it. Also, I love GSE for anything. I have a nasal spray with GSE I use if I have a cold, and I also put drops of GSE in a shot of OJ, I use 4 drops for dd1 who is 7... make sure you stir it off the bottom and drink immediately, then follow with a shot of plain OJ for the taste... or if they dont mind, put it all in a smoothie....

Hey thanks! I forgot about the vit D! I have some Carlson drops in the fridge...thanks for that reminder!

Yes, grape seed extract is great stuff, I'll have to see if he will drink that...hes pretty picky about strange tasting stuff, but hiding in a smoothie might work!

Just a progress update...I gave him one dose of allium and one dose of belladonna. At the time I gave it to him (about 6pm) he was lying on the bed looking very flushed, not really able to sit up, and moaning in his own words "this is the worst cold I've ever had!" I had to bring his soup to bed because he didn't even have it in him to sit at the table.

After an hour or so of us in bed reading books, the nose dried up, and he was much more alert. Father came home with a little gift and he got up right away to play with it! After that he had a bath where he was playing just like normal with bath toys. He fell asleep without any discomfort at all!! No stuffy nose!

I was going to give him another dose before bed, but didn't think he needed it. I'll see how the night goes...but I think this did the trick! I also gave him 4000IUs Vit D (2 drops), and got some Sodium ascorbate to dose myself too...I've been sneezed on alot today!

Thank you so much!!!

Like another poster said...Homeopathy is GREAT!

wow, great results! When you get the right remedies it's truly amazing! I still find it hard to find what works for my littlest one but as my son gets older and can tell me more about what exactly the problem is, I am finding it easier and easier to get it right with him.
