Do your kids take cod liver oil? - Page 2

Check out Winston Price website. They give suggestions about what brands to use for CLO. I've heard bad things about Nordic Naturals. It doesn't have hardly any Vitamin D (a big reason why we're taking CLO since we don't drink fortified milk) because of the process used to purify it. I don't know much though so I would do some research first. We still have 2 bottles of Nordic Naturals and we're having DS finish it but once it's gone we won't buy it again. Check out Kelly the Kitchen Kop blog. She has GREAT CLO info and advice.

haha. Last night I was handing out gummi multi-vits to the kids, and DH says, be glad you live noawdays and have good tasting vitamins. Back in the day, they had to take cod liver oil for vitamins. Which got the eewwwww from them. And I say, it's not so bad, I have some FCLO if you want it... and get eww eww eww eww from them. So yeah, no, my kids don't have any interest in it. Well occassionally our youngest will have a squirt of it. That's the best I can do.

How much of the fermented do you all give your kids, at what age/weight?

Is Blue Ice the only one now?

My kids take the cinnamon tingle FCLO. I got them the gummy fish, but they won't eat them. I tried them and the flavor isn't too bad, but the texture is really awful. So when presented with the choice, they both chose the liquid (they're 3 and 5) They each get 1/2 tsp. WAPF website reccomends 1/2 tsp for kids age 3-12, and 1 tsp for kids 12+ and adults, and 2 tsp for pregnant and nursing women. I haven't been giving any to my dd, who is 9 months. I figure she gets so much good stuff from breastmilk it's kind of redundent, plus it's really expensive.

DD will only take it if she is sick. I tell her it will help her get well, and she agrees to take it. I know I should be trying to get her to take it all the time to prevent illnesses, but no luck so far. I stopped taking it in the pukey phase of this pregnancy, but I have started again, so maybe she will pick it up too.

We use Blue Ice FCLO, I think mediterranean and salty cod and unflavored (?). We bought a case once when it was on sale for cheap, and it has last us a long time.

This is Sally's response from the WAPF site:
"We have consistently pointed out that the vitamins in all but one brand of cod liver oil are synthetic. Only the fermented cod liver oil made in the United States contains the original natural vitamins. Every other brand of cod liver oil is definitely a compromise. But since many people cannot obtain or cannot afford the fermented cod liver oil, we recommend in the 'good' category (rather than the 'best' category), cod liver oil to which synthetic vitamins A and D have been added in the right proportions."

The FCLO she is talking about is Blue Ice. The WAPF recommendations are here: http://www.westonaprice.org/cod-live...il-basics.html
