Veggie Dogs

I need reccomendations for good veggie dogs.
I'm having some major cravings for a "chili dog".
I have a great meat-free chili recipe, but I'm lost when it comes to veggie dogs.

For regular 'hot dogs' the Ives brand is pretty good (although those who are used to eating meat hot dogs tell me they taste nothing like the real thing. I haven't had a real hot dog is so long, I don't remember what they taste like.

However, if you want something a little heftier, the Tofurky sausages or the Field Roast sausages are pretty good, and might be more the thing you are looking for if you want a 'chilli dog'

Okay, this sounds really weird, but it's super good. I boil a whole peeled carrot until cooked and use that as the 'dog'. I just ate a chili carrot dog last night and it was super good. They are also good w/ slaw too.

I also really like the vegan sausage recipe from the Vegan Dad blog http://vegandad.blogspot.com/2008/03...-sausages.html I've used different spice blends.

I've never found a vegan hot dog I've liked but these two things are pretty satisfying.

Field Roast is my very fav. They're pretty massive so they may be more than you're looking for, like a pp said, but the chorizo flavor is awesome with chili

I love Field Roast, but it's a little pricey. Tofurky beer brats and kielbasa are awesome, too. I can't stand veggie dogs (never liked hot dogs, either) but my kids like them and I usually buy Tofu Pups, I think they have the highest protein in the ones available at my co-op, which is why I pick those.

I know this sounds obvious but I make a lot of chili's and find the more you spice it up, the less you will notice you are missing anything. I haven't eaten beef since I was a child but other people don't notice the lack of meat in my chili. I add beans, fresh veggies, barley, lots of spice for the kick, cheese, and you can use different types of tofu or soyrizo as well for the meat texture. You say you are great at chili too so make a soy hotdog plain and spoon on some of your awesome chili, top with green onion or whatever else you are wanting and that should do it? Hope you find what you are craving.

I absolutely loved Morning Star Farms veggie dogs - so good! They stopped making them So I, too, am looking for a new veggie dog.
