Critique my name please!

My baby is due mid-January and we just found out it's a GIRL

DH and I adore the name Caroline Veronica. What do you think? Any associations, opinions, thoughts on sound/flow/length, popularity etc? I can take it

Hmmm. I like Caroline. How are you pronouncing it though? Like

Kare-oh-line
or
Kare-oh-lyn

I could see the softer "lyn" pronounciation going well with Veronica but the harder "line" pronounciation doesn't sound quite right to my ear with Veronica. If you reverse the order and do Veronica Caroline that sounds better to me.

But if you love it...go for it!

Some other "V" names:

Violet
Vivica
Verity
Veritas
Variety
Very
Velvet

Is this an homage to beloved family members or friends? Sometimes knowing those details makes things go together better.

I both of these names! It seems a little overwhelming when strung together like that, but it really depends on how YOU feel about it.

I think Veronica is too much for the already long Caroline.

I love both.

It's not like people use the middle name, so I don't really think it matters if it "goes" or something. She'll have to write it on a few forms, maybe be called by it when she's in trouble, and at her wedding the minister will say it. That's about it.

I would pronounce Caroline with a long i. For a short I, I would spell it Carolyn.

it's a mouthful. with one three or four syllable name, i like to pair it with a one syllable name, but that's just me. LOVE the name caroline.

I'm going weigh in with a "yay" for 2 long names. I think it is beautiful and my daughter has a 4 syllable first name with a long 2 syllable middle name. It works very well and I even frequently use both name when speaking to her. I say go for it!

I like Caroline but don't personally care for Veronica. That's totally a personal preference, though. If you love it, go for it!

Thanks for the replies! To answer some questions:

We would pronouce it -line, not -lyn. In my head there's an obvious difference, but I know some people named Caroline do pronouce it the same as Carolyn. Neither of the names are family names, we just like them. I've been hooked on Caroline for months already, and Veronica just entered the picture this week.

For some reason, I find that long names have a nicer flow than short names. I like Caroline Elisabeth, but I wanted something a little more unusual in the middle.

Some other names I like:

Caroline Maria/Marija (family name)
Caroline Maia (variation of Maria)
Caroline Michele
Caroline Amelia/Emilia (but I want to avoid "A" names, because the names run together and it sounds like Carolina)
Caroline Vienna
Caroline Scarlett (DH vetoes this one, says the name Scarlett sounds dirty to him)

Sounds good to my ears!

I love Caroline Veronica. Beautiful!

Our little girl is due any day now (my due date was yesterday) and she's going to be a Caroline Elizabeth - so you get a thumbs up from me!

I personally love the name Veronica, I have one of my own and I think she's particularly cute.

I think Caroline Veronica flows nicely. If you choose a different name from your list, I personally would go for one that starts with a hard sound, or they kind of blend together in an odd way when you say them together..."Carolinamelia" instead of "Caroline Amelia", if that makes sense. I would vote against Caroline Maia as well because the long I in each sounds a bit repetitive.

I like long names, too. My daughter is Veronica Bernadette.

All in all, though, the only person who will ever use both her first and middle name together will probably be you, when she gets in trouble. I'm only nitpicking because you specifically asked for criticism.

Another mom of a Veronica chiming in! And I love the name Caroline.
I think both are terrific, classic names. Great choice!

As a pp pointed out, no one (well, hardly anyone, hardly ever) will know or use the middle name, so its length and how it sounds with the first shouldn't be given any consideration. In any case, it's a lovely combo.

Thanks for all of the feedback, I just love the name but it's always good to get other opinions
post #17 of 20
I'm not a fan, exactly...not my style. BUT I wanted to say that if I did like either name, I would like them together And also, I use my kids' whole names regularly, even when they're not in trouble, so I do think it matters. AND I think you're right to avoid an A middle to go with Caroline. My Selene Alessandra gets called Selena frequently, because of the prevalence of middle initials being asked for on paperwork.

I really, really like it.

good choices

Love!

Caroline is a nice name for a little girl, has nickname potential for a teenager, and sounds sophisticated without being stuffy for a woman. I love it with Veronica, nice rhythm when you're hollering at her across the back yard when she's in trouble someday.
