Healthy breakfast ideas? (and a making yogart question)

We are vegetarian, and ds is allergic to dairy and oats (and a lot of other things).

For breakfast he has been eating cereal with almond milk, but its really hard to find anything with nutritional value that doesnt have oats in it! He also sometimes has whole wheat organic waffles. I've tried smoothies, he will drink them durring the day (even the all green ones) but not for breakfast. Its also very hard to find soy yogart here (and its expensive)

Any other ideas? I want something healthy, but easy/fast to make!

Can I make my own non-dairy yogart some how?

Kasha (hot buckwheat) is a great healthy high-protein breakfast! You can also make a great quinoa porridge, which is awesome with dried fruit and nuts. Nut butters with apples or celery or whole wheat toast. Whole wheat toast with mashed avocado. Hmm, that's all I got for now.

Making your own yogurt is super easy, though a bit intensive. Here is my recipe from my blog: homemade yogurt

what about eggs? scrambled, fried, boiled...serve with potatoes and you get carbs & protein.
rice pudding with soy milk?
breakfast burrito?
or, since many breakfast foods are dairy & grain heavy, what about just having leftovers for breakfast? you can cook up some of your favorite meals and freeze them and just reheat for breakfast.

Can he eat barley, rye, and kamut? You could make a homemade granola with other rolled grains instead of oats. Quinoa is also excellent cooked as a breakfast cereal, topped just like you would oatmeal. We eat it infrequently because oatmeal is more cost effective, but it is really good. There's a restaurant near us that makes a "harvest grains" hot cereal that has wheat berries, rye, brown rice and wild rice that they serve topped with stewed apples, raisins, cinnamon, soymilk and maple syrup. I bet you could make something like that, maybe with millet and quinoa too, in a crock-pot overnight.

I generally eat egg-fried tofu on toast. My daughter is a big fan of toast with earth balance, cinnamon sugar, and then soy yogurt and fruit.

muesli is always a good filling breakfast and most kids dig it. we use oats, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, dried fruit and any other additions that work at the moment. you could omit the oats and used corn flakes, rye, barley and any other grain that is rolled. just mix it all up, store it and then add 'milk' and let it soak for a few hours. we sometimes add a bit of agave or maple syrup for the girls to sweeten it up.

we are also a total smoothie family. it is easy, healthy and quick. the girls usually do a smoothie and a slice of sprouted grain toast for breakfast. you could possibly do manna bread if the sprouted grain bread is out.

good luck!
