Question about keeping Epi-Pen injection at school for child

My dd's school have always kept her Epi-Pen in the school office, but this year she is in a classroom which is the furthest away from the office. So I'm a bit worried. Another parent mentioned knowing a child who keeps their Epi-Pen in a llttle pouch bag around their waste at all times at school, so I guess that's an option, however then dd might feel embarrassed and the odd one out with that fixed to her, when no one else in her class has it.

So my question is, where is your child's Epi-Pen kept in school?

Can you request the teacher keep it? I'd be more worried about curious students wanting to play with it if it's on your daughter.

My ds wears an epi-pen around his waist and has an extra stored in the nurses office. IMO, a child who has allergies so serious as to be prescribed an epi needs to have that medicine immediately available.

My ds was diagnosed with a peanut allergy at 14 months and has had an epi since that time. His peanut allergy is a part of him. I'd be less concerned about my child being embarassed by the possible need for medication and more concerned that that medicine might not be available in case of an emergency.

Curious classmates have asked my son about the pouch that the wears. He very matter-of-factly replied that it was medicine for his peanut allergy. No one asked to see or touch it and no one has made fun of him for wearing it. As far as others wanting to play with it--I would fully expect that a school aged child would know the difference between a medicine and a toy.

Some states actually have legislation in place so that schools must allow children to carry epi pens on their person. Generally, time matters and so with that pen it should be with the child imo and per our allergist. If my son were in school he'd be wearing it.

DS has worn a single pen waist pack for the past two years since kindergarten. I got it at FAAN. It is very small and fits him well. More pens are stored in nurses' office. Kids have asked about it but there has been no problem. He usually wears his shirts untucked anyways and its covered.

He doesn't want to wear it this year and I'm debating. The nurses office is very close to his classroom and the cafeteria, and they carry walkie talkies if away from office. The nurses don't think its necessary on his person.

I never asked allergist what they recommend, that's a good point.
