My bedroom smells like sour milk and baby poop

This is baby 3. They all slept/sleep with me. Everything is as clean as possible. I do lavender water and baking soda.
It helps, but I think its just the air in there. Most of the time I dont notice it, but sometimes I just walk in and the baby stink bomb hits me.
I guess when this baby is done nursing we will need a new mattress.

You could try stripping the bed and misting the mattress with a solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda with a little squirt of dish soap in it, and letting it dry thoroughly before putting the sheets back on. I believe the proportions are 2cups of peroxide, 2 tsp of baking soda and 1 tsp of soap. We used this solution to deodorize a concrete floor in our basement that had been peed on by cats and it really worked.

We use an essential oil diffuser in our bedroom because there's not a lot of ventilation in our house and it gets funky in there. I use an electric one that plugs into the wall outlet because it can't get spilled like the candle diffusers that use water. Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Earth-Solution.../dp/B000Z96YF6

I put about 10 drops of orange and 4 drops of peppermint on the pad and let it warm up. It really freshens the room.

I have that problem with my guest bathroom. We EC there (started with the bathtub, now the potty) but it was the cloth dipes stored there that left a stink behind. They've been out in the garage for months and I still walk in and smell the diapers sometimes. I cleaned the tub, toilet, sink, floor, but I think the smell may be in the vinyl on the floor (we will someday replace it with tile) and the walls... I feel really self concious about it even though I think I'm the only one who can smell it.

We have a cover on that mattress (that is really annoying) but we can take it off and wash that and sheets so the smell doesn't make it into the new mattress. I think it's just one of those things about having a newborn.

Some suggestions

Have you thought about putting a fan in the room? Is there a window? If so open it and let the room air out. The idea of cleaning the mattress is a good one and then put on a cover. I use a steam cleaner on my mattress. It kills the bedbugs/germs and makes the bed smell nice especially when I use lavender or another scent in the steamer.
Good luck and enjoy the new baby.

I keep a Glade Plugin in my bedroom for this reason.
