Warning about kitchen remodeling

Thread Starter
For anyone considering a kitchen remodel with those awesome looking white cabinets with all the details and raised panels on them? And then those built in wine racks with all the nooks and cranies?

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just spent a couple HOURS cleaning the outside of all my cabinets. Cannot wait to redo the kitchen (someday) and get rid of them. I will be getting dark wood. Dark, flat, no personality wood.

Oh my gosh, what a PITA.

I have to agree with you on the wine racks. Looks like a great place for cobwebs, dust, and kitchen grease to co-mingle. Our regular 6-bottle counter-top wine rack is a pita to clean, and I *can* just put it in the sink and rinse it off.

My parents used to own a cabinet shop and mom would warn customers of that who picked out cabinets that would show a lot of dirt or be hard to dust. I have the ugliest kitchen in the world but my cabinet fronts are totally flat so after your post I will be thankful lol.

We have the country kitchen look with white cabinets, the doors have recessed bead board panels.
Ikea has a similar option, except the center panels stick outwards instead of being recessed. SMART IDEA!
That little lip in ours is a PITA to keep clean, collects dust, dirt, crumbs etc. very quickly...

Glad to have seen this. I have been PINING for white cabinets. I hate, hate, hate our 1980s oak cabinets we have...but now I will just look at them try to keep in mind they are not that hard to take of.

We have older, country cabinets that were apparently painted white when it was put on the market (when we came along and bought it).

They have some features, and aren't flat. And I have to confess I'm not the best housekeeper in the world (or even my block). But I do find that an old toothbrush (dipped in a bit of soapy water) cleans them right up, quickly and easily. Now, I don't do that OFTEN, but even so, it's a quick job.

The wine rack, yeah, that sounds like an invitation for dust, cobwebs and kitchen grease.
