Are you breastfeeding? I've read that breastfeeding moms should shoot to lose 1/2 a pound to no more than 2 lbs per week. For me one pound a week has been a reasonable goal that I've been able to manage while working out and watching what I eat. If I do one or the other I lose about a half pound a week. I think Nola was losing 2 lbs a week at first, but I think she was working really hard for that.
So depending on how much time and effort you're willing/able to invest, I'd say you should give yourself at least 3 months to lose the first 10. Then again, in my situation I started working out at 6 weeks PP and the weight didn't budge one bit until I was 12 weeks postpartum. After that it was much easier and the weight came off fairly quickly at a pound a week.
Personally, I think the first year with a new baby istough enough without trying to hold myself to a strenuous weightloss regimen, so I'm hoping to be within 5 lbs of my goal weight by the time I reach 9 months postpartum (going by the "it took nine months to put it on, give yourself nine months to take it off" mentality) at to my goal weight by her first birthday.
