Great nonchalant toddler nursing reference in a novel

I just read Steve Martin's new novel "The Pleasure of My Company" and I was so happy to see a nice but matter of course reference to a toddler nursing. (Yes, it is Steve Martin the actor) Two characters in the book are this mom and her 1 + year old toddler. For half the book it doesn't even mention how she was feeding him and then there is suddenly a mention of her breastfeeding him. It is the only sentence in the book that talks about her breastfeeding and I thought it was so great because the feeling I got was well, of course she is breastfeeding her toddler, doesn't everybody? It gives me hope that someday that will really be the case.

It made me smile, so I thought I would share it with the rest of you wonderful lactivists!

I read that recently too -- I re-read that line 500 times to revel in it. It was funny how it stuck out like a sore thumb -- I am an avid reader and haven't come across any bf'ing references in all my days, it was nice.

There is another book...by Jude Deveraux, called The Blessing. The heroine in this book breastfeeds...I just cannot remember if the baby is a baby or toddler.

Hey, hey! I love it!

Dh and I watched a movie the other day with Denzel Washington in it... can't remember the title, but his partner's wife is nursing the baby in the beginning of the movie. Very sweet! (of course, the rest of the movie was too rough for my tastes )

Oh, he has a new novel? I "read" one of his other ones. OK, it was an audiobook that I listened to while I was walking, and it was read by the author so it was cool.

Hey... audiobooks are great for busy people! Now that I have two kids though, I can read and block out noise better than I can try to listen to the book over the noise of two kiddos. LOL I guess it doesn't help that I'm half deaf in one ear!

Another great book w/ breastfeeding in it is Jean Auel newest from the Clan of the Cave Bear series. There are a couple of "secenes" where a bunch of the tribes women are sitting around nursing. Also it talks about how all the nursing moms take over and share the feeding of a neglected baby. It's kinda neat!
