Winter wardrobe

What do we need for an 18-24 month old (girl)?

Last year we moved mid-winter and were completely unprepared for our new environment. Kansas is cold and alternates between freezing rain and snow. The stores were sold out of winter wear. I found a coat that was too big and begged some accessories and clothing off family. I'm freaking out and don't want to be caught unprepared again, but we are on a budget and I would hate to waste funds buying things we don't need. Coats, hats, shirts, pants, oh my.

Splurge on a fantastically warm winter jacket

Snow suit [you can get these fairly cheap from consignment shops]
A few chunky wool sweaters
Long sleeve basic tops
Leggings [we do a lot of leggings here]
Wool socks & wool leg warmers
Hat/mitten set

I always make sure DS has a pair of fleece-lined jeans. They are so warm and so nice. We get ours at The Children's Place, but I think Old Navy has them too.

Don't forget boots of some sort. Actually, I really like Padraig wool slippers with waterproof Stonez booties overtop, but they are pricey so if you're on a budget that might not fly. But definitely don't forget something warm for the feet!

Otherwise, the magic word for winter is layers. Long-sleeved shirts and leggings can all go under t-shirts/sweaters and pants...
