9 month old biting

I'm not sure if this is best here or in "Life with a Babe" ...

My nine month old has recently sprouted his top teeth, and has started biting (hard!) on my shoulder and back. I'm pretty sure he's doing it to test out the new teeth and because he thinks it's funny. It hurts, and I don't like it! I'm not sure how to break this habit in an appropriate way. Right now I'm trying saying "Ow!" making a sad face and saying "That hurts Mommy," and move away. He'll usually cry and I comfort him and say "Mommy loves you, but we don't bite." I have no idea if he's getting any of it! Would love advice from BTDT parents.

I would try giving no reaction at this age. Remove him immediately from what he's doing (obviously!) and hand give him a teething toy. Try redirecting in other ways if you do not have a toy handy.

OMG all I can say is I am having this same problem and have no idea how to handle it. DS is biting me all. the. time. It's getting to the point where I'm getting really frustrated. I hope you get some good responses because I need them as well! Good luck!

My 9 month old was doing exactly the same thing and sometimes I wouldn't notice that she was in biting position and she bit so hard that I jumped and said "OW!" really loud!
She didn't cry but she was startled and after a few weeks of biting and this happening, she stopped. I did give her something to bite each time it happened and now if she is lying over my leg and puts her mouth on it, she doesn't bite, only gives raspberries.
I really think she just needed to gnaw or bite something with her new teeth, it didn't seem to be a thing that she did to get a reaction.
