online CPR/ first aid?

I took CPR three years ago and I want to take it again to get refreshed and all that. I noticed the Red Cross website now offers CPR and first aid online. How are those? I don't need certification for work or anything, I just want the skills for general safety purposes. Are the online courses effective?

Interesting concept- I really don't know that I would want someone to ave an online cert for that though- I really think that for some things you need to see/feel/experience for technique. Even following a class with a 'rescue annie' many certified people can't perform CPR adequately. I wonder how someone with an online certification would manage to get a feel for how hard or how far to compress?

It said that if you want/ need a certificate after taking an online class, you would have to take a skills test at a designated location. However, the test would not last as long as the actual test would have-- I guess that is the advantage.

I think CPR classes are useless. It is hands on skill. Here is blog about CPR which explains it all
