Looking for info on eating your placenta

My husband and I want to prepare it ourselves to save money. But I don't know anything about the specifics, and am having trouble finding any advice. Have you done this? What part do you eat and not eat? Any special handling or preparation tips? I was thinking I would cut it into pieces and freeze them for daily smoothies, is that a good idea? I don't want to cook or dehydrate it. how big of pieces should I use? For how many days after the birth should I eat the smoothies? Any advice/guidance whatsoever would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

HI Mama! check out the homebirth section, UC section, too- there are a few mamas here who have great recipes for this.
I'll see if I can find the link for you.

We did this: http://doctcm.com/Preparing%20The%20...20Placenta.pdf just the capsules part, not the soup. It does smell pretty funky, but Dh did it all for me

I did exactly what you're talking about. Invited a good friend to my house a couple of hours after baby was born. She brought a cleaver and cut the placenta into ice cube sized chunks. I don't know that she removed anything other than the cord. I think she cut it all up. Then she made me a smoothie--delicious. Tasted like strawberry smoothie.

She put the rest in the freezer and I made myself several smoothies a day until gone (third day, I think).

The recipe was something like 5-8 chunks of placenta, handful of frozen strawberries, and orange juice. Easy and really yummy. I recommend it to anyone!
