Flying With a Toddler, Feel Guilty Already - Page 2

We're doing a 4 hr flight in 4 weeks with my 18 mos. old and honestly, he would NOT stay in the seat!!! He's going to be on our laps and we'll just pray for the best!

Good luck to you. I know it should be fine. Enjoy your trip!!!

Even if he had his own seat, unless you keep him in it strapped in all the time, you aren't getting the safety benefits all the time anyway. Yes, if he had his own seat, I'm sure he would be in it some, so it would add some safety, but I would look at it that way honestly.

For me personally, I couldn't do it with a child that old because the comfort factor for me would kill it, but I am tall with very long legs and I get motion sick, which having a child on my lap moving and making me warmer would make a lot worse. I can completely understand wanting to save ~$2000 though.

And really, don't worry that much about your fellow passengers. Having another seat doesn't really help with much that unless you have the whole row, and even then there are people in front, behind and across the aisle(s). There just isn't much room on airplanes period, so as long as you are doing your best to keep your child happy, relatively quiet and out of people's space/stuff, it's fine!

Check out seatguru.com and you can get some help trying to figure out what are the best seats. (bulkhead is my personal fav for toddlers).
CARES unit is GREAT for an in between thing (its FAA approved and fits in your purse so if a seat opens up last second but you already have the car seat away-this will be a life saver!).
YES!!! it is Lufthansa!!!! i always had good experiences when flying with them, so i picked that over delta which almost always sort of sucked for me.
when i was booking the tickets it gave me an option to pick my seats on most of the flights, and all bulk heads were already taken... maybe there will be a plane full of toddlers? wouldnt that be fun?
so we just picked an isle seat so he could get up and run around without and trouble. im also praying that there will be an extra seat somewhere and they will move us anyway... last time i was flying i was pregnant and they moved me so i could be more comfy with an extra seat next to me... it was nice.
i remember people also let me go first in security lines which was nice, but who knows if they'd do the same when the child is on the outside :-)
thanks for all your pieces of advice!!! i feel much much more confident
