He grabs at everything!

Now, I know that this is completely normal and it's a phase, but it hurts - especially now that he's found my hair while he's on my back in the carrier! OUCH!!
His big thing is to suck on your face (his way of giving kisses ) but to also grab your hair while doing it - like he's pulling himself harder and harder on to your face.

We gently pull his hands away from the lock of hair and say "ouchie" as we're doing it. But as far as the back carries go, I can't give those up. It's too convenient to have him on my back while I'm doing stuff around the house.

How do you handle this???

Mine is grabbing everything too. He grabbed ds1's hair the other day and brought him to tears-I felt SO bad! I have to be really careful what's within arms reach.

Can you put a high ponytail or bun in your hair when he's on your back? I cut all my hair off after ds2 so I don't have advice other than that. I've never worn necklaces/earrings with babies and I used to always wear my hair up. I've never figured out how to wear my babies on my back (I WISH I could figure out how) so I'm not too much help.

I think you're doing the right thing. At this age, they don't understand not grabbing stuff-it's just natural curiosity.

My hair is shoulder length and I can put it back in to a tiny ponytail for the time being until I get it cut in a couple of weeks.

DS2 pulled DS1's hait yesterday evening after we picked him up from DC. He cried so hard but I had to explain to him that he's a baby, he was excited to see you, etc. But I felt awful, too. Not much that can be done, I know, it just hurts so much. DS1 wasn't this way - that I can remember.

As far as back carries go, the only way I can do it currently is if I lay the carrier down on my bed, lay DS2 on top, attached the buckle around my waist and grab the straps and gently pull him towards my back.

I had that same problem and my daughter grabbed at those tiny little hairs on the back of my neck. OMG. It was awful. However, if I kept putting in a hair claw or headband, she sometimes would occupy herself taking that out, instead of grabbing my hair. Especially if it was shiny (I would normally never wear a shiny hair clip, but if it saved my neck...).

I wear a mommy necklace and it helps distract DS from pulling on the hair, and I keep my hair in the ponytail to at least prevent him from pulling on it one strand at a time.
The mommy necklace is non toxic, has strong cord so DS can't break it and choke on beads, and is a great size for him to play with, so it works well. The hard part is remembring to put it on.

Where did you find the mommy necklace?

DD likes to pull my hair, especially if I'm on the floor with her. She uses my dang bangs to get leverage so she can stand up! Plus the little bugger now says "ow" as she's pulling. So much for trying to get her to stop!

And I'd like to know about the mommy necklace, too. It's funny, cause my Mom mentioned that she should invent grandma necklaces to keep babies occupied. Didn't know they already existed!

Mamas, here's the site for the necklace I have but they are out until after labor day. I have a locked donut style (with a big round bead in the center).
Here's the link http://www.mommynecklaces.com/
Mine comes in very handy and also works as a impromptu distraction toy.
