Any Clean Eaters Here?

We are trying to eat as clean as possible. With some success (I am down 51 pounds and my husband 29 plus pounds).

Anyone else eating clean? Recipes? Tips? Products to try that are clean?

I got Tosca Reno's book Recharge from the library. I have requested her cookbooks as well.

In general I do. Processed stuff does not make my IBS happy.

Congrats on the weight loss! That is amazing.

I haven't really changed the way I eat that much, just eliminated the last remaining processed things. Lots of veggies, fruits, lean proteins. For grains I do a lot of brown rice, lentils, barley, brown rice pasta, wheatberry bread. I can't tolerate whole wheat. As soon as it gets cooler I'll be adding oatmeal. For some reason I only like it during cold weather.

I think dinner tonight is going to be brown rice with zucchini, peas, corn and a bit of smoked pork.

Products? Eh, not buying products but produce seems to be the key. I do like the bread options at Trader Joe's because they offer whole grain breads without wheat. I do eat a lot of greek yogurt but that is a pretty basic food.

I can't give up my coffee w/real cream and a luna bar for breakfast though. It is my one vice.

I'd like to start. I think I'm going to check out that book you mentioned. Congrats on the loss, that's awesome!

Here are the books she has.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...o&sprefix=tosc

Now she talks about Coolers. I don't do that...yet. Right now we are concentrating on eating as clean as possible. Which isn't easy. Part of which we are still trying to clean out our pantry. I have purchased more honey, Agave, and Kefir. Agave and Kefir I have never had before, but really like.

Brown rice isn't a problem but whole wheat pasta is. None of the WW pastas I have tried are any good. I did get some quinoa pasta, but haven't tried it yet.

Haha, I had just gone on amazon and looked up her books!
I'm with you on the whole wheat pasta. I keep on trying, but it just isn't good.

I don't follow this plan but thought I would throw out- how about brown rice pasta? I haven't had wheat in forever but I think TJs brown rice pasta is pretty smooth and tastes good dh likes it as well as wheat.

I'm interested to learn more. What is clean eating all about? I'm currently doing low carb, do bread, potatoes, pasta, etc., are out my diet range!

Whole Foods carries a pasta made from Jerusalem Artichoke Flour (the starches in it are better for you. Like, they don't affect blood sugar the same way. Interesting stuff) and it was GOOD! Next time I go I'll get the name.

Tube shapes are the best for wheat free or whole wheat pastas. They just seem to stand up better and not get mushy or grainy.

I eat clean. My diet is primarily fruits and vegetables, with nuts, seeds, and legumes for protein and a few servings of grains a day (oats, quinoa, brown rice, homemade whole wheat bread). I hardly use any premade food products, although in a pinch I will throw a Dr. Praeger's california burger on a ww pita in my bag for lunch on the go. At least one meal a day is a huge salad with tons of chopped raw veggies, nuts, dried fruit, etc. I also eat a lot of veggie soups, curries, stir fry's and stews. I've lost 80 pounds. I do have to still pay attention to portions, but one of the best side effects of this way of eating is all the energy it gives me, I find myself moving so much more in day to day life, and exercise has become a joy rather than a chore to slog through. Having a healthy body makes moving feel good, so you move more, which burns more calories, so you can eat more. Win-win-win-win.

I picked up some Quinoa pasta (Ancient Harvest) but haven't tried it yet. The ingredients is Organic Corn Flour, Organic Quinoa Flour.

I have seen some recipes for homemade Soba Noodles. You need buckwheat flour for that.

Great! I will add that to my shopping list for WF.

I have converted my husband to brown rice, but the pasta is a problem for both of us.

Basically clean eating is eating foods as close to it's natural state as possible. 100% whole grains, brown rice, WW Pastas, fruit, veggies, healthy oils, lean protein etc.

This may help you.

I've heard that agave is just as bad as HFCS because of the high concentration of sugar in it. I don't have links, just a few conversations with a very well read friend. Something to look in to.

We eat TJ's brown rice pasta. I've even made it for my ILs who Will. NOT. eat whole wheat pasta no matter how I've cooked it. They can't tell the difference with the brown rice pasta and white pasta. I rinse it really well after draining it and that helps keep any gummy texture at bay. However, it isn't as good as leftovers because it tends to harden. Other than that I prefer it to whole wheat pasta.

I like the Bionaturae organic WW pastas. My kids LOVE the gobetti shape.

Would you consider this clean?

We buy Noodles for Pad Thai in big packages. Anyhow I have one unopened and one partially used. The ingredients are:

Wheat Flour, Salt, Water

Would you consider this Clean? Wang is the brand. We get ours at Global Market.

I love these things.
