Will I survive with one carrier?

I have had five carriers in my lifetime One sling, one mei tai, two wraps, and one Ergo.

I have sold everything but my woven wrap (BEAUTIFUL, gypsymama wrap. It's in the Trading post right now, actually ) and my Ergo, which I use 100% of the time.

I could never get used to the woven wrap- when I got it right it was comfy but I liked being able to take DD out and put her back without too much fuss, which was easier in the Ergo.

Will I survive with just the Ergo? I'm thinking of getting something else eventually because my Ergo looks pretty used- my DD sucks on the straps (it's black) and on part of the top of it (don't think the suck pads cover this portion) and it's very faded there. It's such a great carrier though (beautiful too- the organic black embroidered one from babysteals). I just don't know if it will be enough!

Anyone out there "make it out alive" with just one carrier? How long did you babywear for? What did it look like when you were done with it?

If I get anything else though, it WILL be another Ergo. Maybe a Beco.. but the Ergo is my favorite by far

Absolutely! I have variety of carriers for different purposes, but I could definitely get by with just one. For me it would be a woven wrap in size 5. And I don't baby my carriers at all, my Ergo looks pretty rough after 3 kiddos.

I have had and used lots of carriers and like different ones for different things. But once my little one was older, I pretty much mainly used my SSC. So you can definitely get by with just one, especially if your little one is bigger now.

Cool! Glad to know that. Also glad to know I'm not the only one with a rough looking ergo

I only have an Ergo right now---when P was a newborn, we loved the moby, and occasionally the pouch, but those were both borrowed and now we use the Ergo (which is also borrowed!) exclusively. I'm not sure what we'll do when we need to give it back---but just keep that in mind---ask around and if you do feel the need to have another type, perhaps you'll have some friendly folk willing to lend away.

We loved the moby when she was a newborn also

Today I noticed a hole (yes a HOLE!) on the shoulder strap of my ergo. I need to sew that up. Egh. I'm not even abusive with it- no idea how it got there!

Its funny, when I read your thread title I thought to myself "Only if that one carrier were an Ergo". Yeah, its my go-to as well, and I have been using it since DS was like three weeks old.

How is yours holding up?

My ergo is threadbare, snd I'm thinking of getting a second for DS (just a few weeks old, now). The lining fabric is worn through at the edges of the carry pouch.

I feel that I do need at least 2 carriers, because sometimes you really have to wash the ergo, and what are you supposed to do when it's taking 24+ hours to dry?

98% of the time, I use my Babyhawk, so yes, I could survive with one carrier. I like having my Maya Wrap, especially as she gets older and I do the quick hip carry for fast store trips. But, if I had to, I could. I think you'd adapt.

For those of you who indicated you used the moby wrap for a newborn can you tell me more about how it worked for you? My youngest is 5 and I have not used a sling with him in a few years. I have a ring sling and the kangaroo Korner fleece pouch. I am due in late October and thought I would try the Moby-D but each time I try it on in the store it just feels like it would come loose and not hold the baby in. The ring sling I remember seemed to swallow my newborn and I did not get the pouch until my youngest was 3 months old or so. Any other suggestions for a newborn carrier? Thanks!

The moby works really, really well...especially once you have the baby out of your tummy, and into the carrier
