Soy free chicken

Thread Starter
Hi all - I have 21 chickens who will be laying eggs soon. In my quest to find soy free chicken feed, I discovered that there is an awful lot of soy being fed to chickens - even the organic or pastured ones. I didn't realize how much soy there is in regular chicken feed. I was concentrating so much on soy free eggs, I forgot about the chicken we eat! I'm planning in the future to raise soy free meat chickens but wondered if anyone knew of places to get soy free chicken in the meantime. I found a company called Tropical Traditions that sells soy free chicken. Has anyone had experience with them? Does anyone know of any other good sources - maybe less expensive?

Here is a link to a well respected recipe if you are interested in mixing your own food. I used to do it all the time but got a bit busy (and lazy) the past few months so have been feeding organic pellets which I DESPISE and I have to say it ends up to be cheaper to mix the whole grains myself. You can also sprout them to get more bang for your buck (and make them even better for your chickens). I get my grains from Azure Standard.

PM'd you

I have a good friend who's a farmer and they run a soy and corn free feed farm. She should be able to tell you what to feed them.

I've been frustrated by this too, the green pastures link looks pretty good!

Free range, let them eat what they find, bugs and plants.
